Duck Ice Capades

This little Green-wing Teal was ice skating (not really, I'm a known liar) across the pond when I took this.
It's been a LONG time since I was close enough to one of these to be able to actually get a shot before they got spooked and flew off. :) Winter has a way of making birds do strange stuff though.

Speaking of "strange", all of the different kinds of ducks that day in this spot were swimming up the where it started to be solid ice then they would jump up and start walking... It was kind of surreal.

Most colorful version of duck/goose I have seen this side of the pond is the Egyptian goose - very unusual looking.

You Brits have some really cool birds. I gotta come visit.

In the UK we are a population of bird lovers, it is estimated that 20 million+ people regularly feed the birds in their back gardens, yards, or even high rise balconies. There are over a million members of the RSPB (Royal Society Protection of Birds), there are 250,000 WWT members (Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust).
Although saying this where birds were once common place it is becoming harder and harder to see birds and there are many species that are on the decline. I myself plan carefully and do lots of research on where to go and I often travel long distances and spend much time looking for different species of birds. When I locate birds there is also the challenge of photographing them, weather/wind/rain/light/terrain all factors that make it difficult.
If it was easy It would be a boring hobby. I get out and about and that makes me happy.:-)

Sorry, Pagman, but I think Egyptian Geese are ugly.
(Taken so long ago that I can't remember camera or lens used)

And what about the Shelduck - that's colourful and prettier, too.
