I, for one, would be embarrassed to admit how much money I have wrapped up in this ridicules hobby.
I would submit that I'm not alone in this circumstance, yet I continue to see others using dated versions of Photoshop
when a subscription costs about $10/month...why?

Because CC sux, as does any other subscription-based system, that's why. And we've had this argument before, in many other threads, and it remains moot as neither camp is gonna convince the other to join.

Same here: it does everything I need and more. And since I don't use ACR, I don't need support for newer cameras. Don't even use .psd files, but good old TIFF.

CS6 here.

You can still buy a perpetual license for it. At least you could a couple months ago.

Constructive criticism is always appreciated.

"Because it sucks" ... well, can't argue with that.

I use LRCC and PSCC.

Yup, yup.

Using CaptureOne Pro and PS CS4 here. Actually, I have to thank Adobe: their Crappy Cloud was what made me ditch LR and migrate to C1P, which is a far, far superior RAW processor.

LRcc and PScc because it's so cost effective to stay current. At $10/month, it's a deal.

Although I have LR and PS CC, I prefer to use On1 Photo for editing as a plug in for Lightroom.

you could convert the newer camera raw files to DNG to use ACR if you'd like...i still use CS4 as well...i have thought about getting lightroom, but i don't like the idea of paying monthly

I still use PE 8, enough for me at the moment. $10 a month, is $120 a year and that is the price of a single PE which will last a couple of years.

I used PS7 until windoze killed it. Now I use the free version of Adobe CS2 (external link) which includes Bridge.

That is one side of the argument.

The other side of the argument is,

"Not all of us either WANT or NEED to 'remain current' on software revs. We choose to decide WHEN we upgrade (in order to support a new camera model just purchased) and we skip versions of software because the intermediate ones are not NECESSARY for us. While newer versions may have new and improved software capabilities, we do not HAVE TO HAVE them right away. So if I upgrade for $99 (not the full initial purchase price $150) every four years, I come out with more money in my pocket than if I paid $480 in subscription fees."

Our circumstances are different, our solutions are different. Neither approach is always better, but is based upon our individual circumstances.

I use the tools needed to render the image(s) desired. Sometimes that is Photoshop, other times it is not.
