Any idea what this toggle does on my old Minolta SRT-201?

Spent a little while trying to find some answers on Google, but for the most part the descriptions/reviews are mostly filled with talk about important features.

If I recall, that is the button you push to release the tension so you can roll the film back into the cassette.

Makes sense. I guess if I had some film in there it would have been easy enough to figure out...

Dont feel bad those Minoltas are tricky. I kept thinking the DOF preview button was the lens release. I thought mine was broken because of it, then I read the manual haha.

I did the exact same thing. The actual lens release is tiny and looks like something you unscrew. I am thinking about sending it to get a basic restoration on it. Hopefully it's still usable enough to practice manual photography with. We shall see!

They are quite tough. This set apart, the younger generation sometimes finds some specimens that got stored in the attic and forgotten. These little jewels happen to go on sale for next to nothing. That's also true of the SRT 303. The small mirror shock-absorber gets brittle over time, but otherwise not much goes wrong with it.

It also allows you to do multiple exposures. If you press the button while cocking the film advance, it resets the shutter without advancing the film to the next frame. I used to mess with it on my old TLb.

Results were, at best, mixed. But with practice (and a tripod) I could see how it could be pretty cool...

IMHO, it is one of its best features.
