I don't think they have Sam's club in NZ.. :)

But yes I use both the energizer and "PowerEx" AAs in 2500mah
Weka it's the "mah" rating you need to look for,. in a decent brand name battery..

Check your "poopy" ones and see what this number is. NIMH batts have come a Loooooooooooong way i just a few years. Some are as low as 1100mah,.. and I recall vivdly when 1600mah was the very best you could find.

If you can find some @ 2000mah or higher you will be pretty happy I assure you. Even the 1600s used to beat Alkalyne for number of shots.

Dick smith have some rated at 2200mah I think, their chargers seem good too. I've only used these in my battery pack so I can't really say how they are directly in a flash, but they recharged my flash in about a second and never ran out of power.

I also bought some 2400mah ones from a guy on trademe that work well.

My main batteries are 2800mah Power-2000 batteries from B&H, which last so long i'm always amazed.

I think some warehouse stores have energiser NiMH, if they have them they'd be my first choice, otherwise i'd go with the cellpower ones - they're up to 2600mah now.

Tony, the Energizers are 2500mah -- Countdown or Pak&Save are the cheapest so far.. Give it a few months and the 2800s will be widely available.

I've had good luck with Duracell NiMH. They have 'em in 2500 mAh now and last about 120-170 shots depending on power usage. Fast recycle time. I get these at Wal-Mart.

i have the fast 15 minute Energizer charger that came with 4 AA rechargeable 2300mah batteries. got it off ebay for $20 shipped. super fast charging which is great. i have gone up to about 100 shots with my 430EX flash and did not run out of juice.

I use camelion rechargeable 2600 mAh. Good battery for long shoots. Just wondering does it matter to use Nickle metal hydrides or Nickle manganese or Lithium ion batteries for 580EX speedlights. i am not sure about the compatibity of diffrent batteries for my 580EX.

Adil, NiMH are the best bet. I've never heard of Nickle manganese, and AFAIK lithium aren't rechargable, plus they're expensive.
