After looking through some threads here about triggering flash with a light meter, I am even more confused and need some guidance from some of you knowledgeable people. Here is what I have at the moment:

1 - Nikon D300
1 - Yongnuo YN-622N i-TTL Wireless Flash Transceiver
3 - Yongnuo YN-622N i-TTL Wireless Flash Transceivers

3 - Neewer TT850 Flash heads

I am looking at Sekonic light meters but have read there are major issues to get the wireless function of the light meter to work with these triggers.

I am on a extreme budget and cannot afford to upgrade the triggers to Pocket Wizards. So what are my options in terms of light meters that do work with Yonguo triggers.

Any an all help is extremely appreciated!

Jim

You can put the Sekonic in flash mode and then it will wait till is sees a flash and measure it. The remote (PW and Elinchrom) is a luxery that is really handy but not essential for the hardworking photographer.

But wouldn't that require that I take the commander unit of the camera and with me to the subject, trigger the flash get the reading then put the commander unit back onto the camera then take the image?

I was looking for a solution where I can leave the main transmitter on the camera and fire it via the light meter. Do happen to know which of the sekonics have that flash mode? This may be the only option I have.

You'd only need to take the trigger off the camera if your camera was nailed down, I do it with my camera in my right hand and the meter in the left. Switch on meter, fire trigger, read meter. Job done! Or adjust lights, reset meter, fire trigger, read meter. Job done!

Even if you push the shutter release button rather than the trigger test button, so what. It's digital. Just trash your test shots. Don't see the harm.

so after some further research, I think I am going forward with the Sekonic L-308S Flashmate. The next model offers some really nice features but honestly, I don't think at this point in my photography knowledge I would use them.

I thank all that replied and offered their knowledge.

I want to wish everyone here a very Happy New Year.

I use the YN-622C and a sync cable with my L-358. I had a PC sync to Hot Shoe adapter that I use on my Polaroid LandCamera 250 when I throw on my flashes and realized I just needed to attach one of my triggers to the hot shoe side and the sync cord into the sync socket on the flash. Worked perfect. Same can be done with the L-308S.

The {TEST] button does not update the whole system; half-shutter does, before the Fire! signal.
