YongNuo YN622C II : 622C-TX : YN685 Trigger Controller Flash

Three years after YongNuo released the original YN622C controller/trigger, the range has been expanded. There have been continuing improvement in design, manufacturing, compatibility, inter-operation and ease of use.

New products include:
YN622C II – camera-controlled E-TTL and Manual and YN560 slave Manual. And with updatable firmware.

YN685 Speedlite with built-in 622 and 560 receiver – one-piece E-TTL and Manual flash.

Then there is my "Side-Saddle" Mount.

Much easier to use, especially when the camera is on a tripod.

And, you can add a YN685 in radio slave mode to the top of Nissin cable for on-axis fill.

This has really been my only complaint about the 622C-TX.

I use an OC-E3 cord and a Manfrotto "Magic Arm" attached to a tripod leg. It is a bit of overkill, but I had it lying around, and it gets the job done.

I wanted to be able to use the rig at walk-around events, and like you, use what I had.

Especially, I wanted an on-axis fill light as well. The Nissin has the socket to hold a YN685 in remote slave mode, and with the switch set to EXT, the flash is totally disconnected from the camera. The 685 is radio-slaved to the 622C-TX.

And, if I walk away from the augmenting lights, I can switch to TOP, and change the 685 to Normal mode, and have just the fill light.

I often gang 2 or 3 flashes under a single shoot-through umbrella. I have always used a 622C on each of the 3 flashes. What would happen if I were to use a cable from a single 622C, and through splitters, connected all 3 flashes to a single 622C? Has anyone tried to fire multiple flashes from a single 622C before?

That will work, using the PC-sync out port on the 622C. It provides a 1CS, 2CS or supersync sync signal.

BTW.... these triggers are amazing......it works with my Profoto Acute 600R in HSS mode. I tried it before with the expensive PWFlexTT5 and it's very very finicky. You have to go through PWs software and play with the settings ..... such a hassle.

With these triggers, it's plug and play.

maybe the question was asked before but can the YN685 on camera act as a master (on axis fill-light) and trigger other YN622?
I'm confused by the YN685 manual where only the slave flashes show the a flash symbol.

You are correctly understanding the manual - the YN685 cannot act as a Wireless (optical code) or a 622 radio or a 560 radio Master.

It has 4 modes - Normal (stand-alone), 622 Slave Remote, 622 Slave Mix and 560 Slave. Take a look at TOYUG II - link is in my signature.

Fill-flash options - sole flash, on camera; on-top flash mounted on YN622C II; slave 622 remote flash mounted on a camera flash bracket of some sort (see TOYUG II).

no... it doesn't have transmitter, only has receiver components..

Hi everyone, I just picked up a set of used 622-Cs and a 622-C-TX to use with my 60D and two SB-24s off camera. After playing for it with a little bit, I've come to realize that I cant set manual power with the TX for the SB-24s.

Is there any workaround to this, or should I just replace them with some Yongnuo flashes?

I don't really have a need for TTL or anything fancy, as I just use manual power, which would have been nice to be able to set with the TX.
