Folks today just don't know Photogenic, they buy the cheapo stuff built in who-knows-where. So I will put in a good word for the Photogenic line...

  • Photogenic has been a brand long used (2-3 decades ago) in professional portrait photography
  • Back in the 1990s I witnessed a 'shoot out' by a retailer at their booth at a wedding tradeshow...in EVERY test the Photogenic outperformed the comparable White Lightning flash unit from Paul Buff...very impressive!

(At the time, I wrote to Photogenic and pointed out the inflated model numbers used by WL (suggestive of higher power than electrical specs would have you believe), I related the shoot out I witnessed, and I jokingly told them their Photogenic 600 should be renamed the Photogenic 1100 since it outperformed the WL1000...imagine my chagrin when they began to follow the Buff practices of inflating model numbers!)

IOW, if you are learning to use studio lighting, want a good quality unit, but are limited in budget, consider this Photogenic unit!
