Anhinga are amazing fishers, operating entirely underwater. They use their powerful, long neck to thrust their harpoon-like bill and spear their prey. They surface to flip the fish in the air and down the hatch it goes. Their lack of oil glands for preening helps to make them less buoyant but requires them to air dry for easy flight.
