helios 44-2 lens on eos M help

i have the eos m with latest firmware , using the 24-105 on it , got hold of a helios 44-2 lens so bought the adapter so it would fit the eos m , but all i get is update firmware failed , uodate lens firmware . any ideas much appreciated

Custom function menu: C.Fn-7 Release shutter without lens must be set.

Do you have a chip on the adapter? If so, pull it off (it's probably just glued on there). Some of the chipped adapters have invalid or old code that don't work with many camera bodies.

Is that an M42-Canon EF adapter?

If it is an EF, and you are attaching it to the Canon EF to EF-m adapter, it probably won't work, since the Canon adapter is looking for electronic contacts your lens and adapter don't have. You'll need something like this:

You can try popping off the chip, but my guess is it still won't work. You'll want an adapter designed to mount to EF-m.

sorted m8 , put a bit of tape over the contacts on the adapter , now its just getting used to it , cheers for the advice m8
