ask if it is a good idea or just a waste of money. Thanks for any and all input.

Heya,

It can be a waste of money depending on what the policy states in terms of what it will cover. You have to be very specific with it. Just random generic insurance that won't cover damage (such as self-inflicted, like a drop or dunk) or theft for example isn't going to be very helpful to you at all.

It can be glorious to have insurance if you get a good policy that will cover the most common things that you will encounter (like dropping something, or it getting hit by something else, theft, etc).

Read the fine print, be very selective about the insurance.

Also, depending on how you do it, putting on something else with a really high deductable (like your home owners...) might not be the best idea either as it won't cover anything except the most costly stuff, if you think about it. Also, using it, will potentially cause a change in your rates (wouldn't want that on a house, right?).

I would stress an independent policy. Just read what is actually covered and how the process works before going with it.

Very best,

Absolutely.

I had my Explorer broken into at a wildlife sanctuary ( I was expecting a different kind of wildlife) and they took my camera bag, with lenses, filters, etc etc etc as well as GPS, prescription sunglasses, and a bunch of other stuff from my console. Luckily I was carrying my camera with me.

Everything replaced within 2 weeks - with updated versions of some things.

Cost is pretty minimal and because I run a business its all a write-off anyway. My accountant insists all computers, cameras etc are insured.

According to my home owners policy i have only $ 2500.00 worth of coverage for camera. Which is only about one camera body today. I have to find out what they cover
and i should have mentioned i am in Ontario Canada.

Depending on what company your with you may need a rider of increase your coverage.

As a Home-based business, we have a rider on our home owners policy that covers all business-related electronics.

We were with Wawanesa and had very good experiences. Fire, burglary, vehicle break-in over a period of 20+ years. We moved to TD Meloche based strictly on cost. If we ever have to make a claim we may be sorry we did that.
