I took these yesterday. Here are the best ones. Feedback/ranking appreciated.

Also, how can I correct the sky color so they are more uniform? The exposure changes as the sunlight changes, tweaking the camera settings, and then by the time I'm done with editing the color is all over the place.

Thanks for looking.

Another nice set. I'd consider cloning out the wires in #2 in your first post of this thread.

I think this is Teterboro? If so, it looks like you caught someone departing Newark in #1, guessing it might be a Delta jet.

I acknowledge your question about the sky, but I don't have an answer for you. If you use LightRoom, check out the "dehaze" function.

Edit: If you are using a polarizing filter, the sky color might change due to the angle of the sun relative to the lens.

AT,

Honestly, your shots look grainy and not very sharp. Try a higher shutter speed to prevent camera shake and freeze the motion.
If these are heavily cropped, that could account for the graininess.
Can't comment on background edits unless we know what editting software you're using.
I hope this helps.

The first one yes, is heavily cropped. The rest I honestly don't see graininess, maybe zooming in a lot but still. Though I admit there isn't the fine detail of using high end gear. I am happy with what I produced with my $150 lens and first time doing this subject.

I'm using Photos on my Mac desktop. Thanks.

I agree, the ones taken with higher shutter speed are sharper than the first.
Watch your composition. Remember rule of thirds. Don't let the equipment be an excuse to improve.
I don't know anything about Mac editing software. Most of us are using Lightroom, Photoshop or similar software to process images. And we're shooting RAW.

looks to me like you are having white balance issues. If you are using Auto White Balance this is not surprising. Try setting a custom white balance or setting the camera to Daylight. If you shot these in RAW, you can go back and set the WB the same for each shot.

as for the color of the sky, you will have a hard time avoiding differences in color unless you shoot the exact same spot in the sky every time. Of course, even coin this you will see some changes with time and sun placement.

a CPL filter will help darken the sky a bit, if that's what you are going for.

Thanks. Next time I'm there I'll try a higher shutter speed and a different location. I am shooting in RAW. Hopefully I can get PS or LR soon.

you are right about there not being any grain.

any odd artifacts are from JPG compression not from camera sensor noise.

same with the apparent lack of sharpness … it is caused by the same high compression being applied to the exported images.

1/1000 while panning with the jets should be more than sufficient to freeze the motion and possible camera shake. I bet if you went back into Photos and figured out how to export a higher quality (less compressed) image it would look tack sharp with zero "grain".

Number 3 is nicely sharp. Very attractive image.

the last 2 are nice!

if you can position yourself catching them coming straight on...i bet those would be some excellent shots!

I think these are all good images. If you were planning on making a large print, then sure, you could probably tweak a few things. I think the main issue that stands out is the white balance, which is easily correctable since you have a single light source and a white object in the frame.

I think the uneven color/brightness across the sky is a non-issue. I think it's better you don't have a perfectly uniform background.
