I want to filter/organize a thread so that it only has one persons posts. Specifically I want a thread that is only A.S.I.G.N Observatory's posts in the iron-man suit thread. https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1279182

I'm trying to think of a way to get "traverse thread" or search function to return this. Anyone have ideas?

You can use Search for that purpose. Specify the poster's name where it says POSTS BY [+] .

Once I've got that how do I display them without having to go to page 37 and click on one link at a time?

If you go to the Forum (not the thread) and click on the number in the "Replies" column for the thread you're interested in you'll see a (sorted, from most posts to fewest) list of members who've posted in that thread. Clicking on their number of posts will bring up the search results (most recent post first), with the first couple of lines of text from each post. But I don't think that Pekka visualized anyone wanting to see posts without their context, so the only way to view each post in its entirety is by viewing it in the page where it occurs.

I have not realized that such feature is needed (is it really?). In this case it is easiest to use your eyes as filter (his avatar is pretty prominent) and just browse the thread page by page.

PS. for searching the thread for a member, easiest is to use the automated search commands in member info ("more info | report", or just click the avatar), if you do the "SEARCH: this thread for posts with images by A.S.I.G.N. Observatory" you'll get only 140 posts as result.

I don't think it's a needed feature. I was wondering if there was some kludge using existing functionality (thread traverse, search, gallery, css etc.) that would let me get this. I know a lot of non-photographers that would love reading that thread and if I could streamline it a bit for them it'd be nice. I don't think it would be a very useful feature to the general forum base.
