I am really intrigued by the focus capabilities and the AF hit rate I am seeing from the A7RII. If I were to buy just the body and the Metabones IV adapter, would I be able to get a good feel of how well the focusing is, just using my existing EF lenses? Or would I need to probably invest in a native E-mount lens to begin with? I could see myself slowly migrating over to the Sony system and picking up some native lenses, if AF, and image quality are as good as the reviews say.

Also, how is the high ISO performance of the A7RII compared to the 5DIII? Is is similar?

AF with adapted lenses is pretty good...comparable to a DSLR with a lesser AF system (i.e. 5DII/6D), but native lenses perform better and are able to use features like eye-focus and lock-on focus. Adapted lenses are very much useable for anything outside of sports and wildlife, but don't expect the AF tracking abilities that you're used to with the 5DIII. AF with native lenses is comparable to the 5DIII.

The upside to the a7rII is that because the AF sensor is built into the actual image sensor, you don't have the typical calibration issues you contend with when shooting with DSLR's. What this means is that the AF on the a7rII is much more accurate than the 5DIII and there isn't a need to mess with microfocus adjustments anymore.

Low light performance is significantly better than the 5DIII. Less noise, no banding, but where the a7rII really pulls away at high ISO is in how well the colors and DR are preserved. It's pretty impressive how this thing performs in low light.

There is nothing that I miss about the 5DIII, like mystik said performance with native lenses is better then with adapted lenses.

I get sharper images with my Sony and Canon adapted glass then I did with Canon glass on Canon.

Go for it, there is nothing you can loose, I will be going to Eagle shooting with A7RII in 2-3 weeks, for that purpose will be renting an A-mount 70-400 lens, might later buy one, should be fun :)

My Tamron 150-600 works now with Metabones as well, but performance is so-so, i heard that Tamron 150-600 in A-mount works great though, maybe I will try to swap them later.

I made the switch from 5D3 to A7R2 and I am very happy. Native lenses are my first choice. I believe high ISO is at least one stop better.
