Do you print photos

Does anyone print anything anymore? I've noticed there isn't a sub-forum to discuss photo printers.

My 22 year old HP LaserJet 4+ (yes, monochrome) is still going strong but the LPT interface is becoming a hassle with having to add in a card. I'm educating myself on color lasers and noticed they are rarely discussed here.

I just got a printer and love printing. I used to love doing darkroom work as well and it just feels like the process is complete when you have a printed copy of your work.

You won't see much colour laser for printing photos as inkjet is far superior in that regard. If you are like me, I was totally against inkjet printers because of ink costs, I've now found that 3rd party inks such as Precision Color and Jon Cone inks work out to be a small fraction of the OEM cost of ink.

I have found that even Costco is withdrawing on-site photo printing from some stores...in our area with many Costco locations, several now send out printing to a central Costco site (5-10 miles away) and have to truck the prints from there to the other stores, so no more 0ne-hour service.

Shame, all these photos captive in smartphones!

All the time, but I don't print them myself. I use a lab.

don't even consider a laser printer for photographic output, it's inkjet all the way. You'd be surprised at how good even the cheapest inkjet can be.

and yes, i print photos fairly often. My kids like having them and so do I.

I still use a lab if I have a huge order of 5x7's or 8x10's for a group or team. At that point it may still be cheaper to print at home but it's not worth my time. Large prints, 16x20 or larger, I send to a lab as well since I'm limited to 13" wide.

this too.

i keep 4x6 and 8.5x11 paper to print mostly 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10. If I'm distributing it to my family I will print maybe 5 at home. I also have some 13x19 paper but only rarely use it for a landscape type shot, or something off the wall that I really like.

Me too. I loaded up on Canon paper when it was on sale.
4x6 glossy
5x7 semi glossy
8x10 glossy
8x10 lustre
13x19 semi gloss

Also bought some Canson watercolour paper from Michael's to try out. First attempt wasn't very good but I'll keep trying.

I use to print a lot using my own printer but have now switched over to Costco. The results are as good as I can do using my own equipment for a fraction of the cost.

To me, a photo has to be on paper.

I print at home, on an inkjet.

It is surprising to hear this. I remember when laser color couldn't be beat. I do have a Canon i9900.

Colour laser is great for text, charts, and graphics but lacks the detail and gamut for photos. I have 3 printers at home. Monochrome all in one, colour laser, and a inkjet photo printer.

I do all my printing at home on inkjet as well.
