AF is better than the 6D in some ways worst in others.

Accuracy - A7rii, it just nails it

Super low light - 6D center point

Focus area - A7rii, most of the frame can be focused

Focus speed - 6D center point

Outer focus points - A7rii, face detection makes it very easy to lock on kids without moving the joypad.

the FE 55 is really good, hard to top that lens. It's microscopic in size as well.

samples from sony 55 and mbiv + EF 100mm f2 (135 f2 works just as well, have both).

Thanks for your contribution Charlie. Great pics on your flickr page. I think the a7RII is really going to help me with the kids. One of the bigger problems with the toddlers is I really need to use the center focus point and recompose with the 6D since it's the only cross type focus point (and a great one at that...especially n low light). The recomposing would many times get the parts of the face I wanted in focus to be out of focus somewhat. Many times I couldn't tell if it was my lens front or back focusing or the kids moving or my recomposing changing the focus plane slightly. Either way...I found that when using my a6000 with the Eye Focus or Face detect on Wide focus area that I could compose my shot and still manage to nail the focus because the focus area was so much better and the face detect/Eye Focus where a huge asset to the way I shoot since it's children and portraiture/environmental stuff. I know I could have gone the 5DIII route for better autofocusing, but that would have increased the size and weight of my gear, plus the sensor/Dynamic Range/EVF/Continuous Eye Autofocus and focus area/points on the a7RII seemed like the better bet and the ability to use my Canon Glass that I love (Which I can still use face detect with the Metabones adapter or possibly Continuos Eye AF with the Techart Saker Falcon adapter). I also I really enjoyed the A6000 and feel this will be easier to travel light if I get a few native lenses to go with my Canon glass. Hopefully as they start to get more/faster Primes in my favorite focal lengths I could eventually go completely native.

Are you not getting a focus lock with your outer points? I realize that they aren't all cross points but that doesn't mean that they are useless either. I personally have had no noticeable problems locking onto peoples faces with any focus point that I want to use. I mean a human face has a lot more texture and color difference than a solid color wall, especially when you place a focus point directly over someone's eye. You have a very clear contrast point of black and white. To me it just doesn't make sense that your camera can't lock onto something that has so much color contrast to it.

Hey, on that Falcon, what was the wait time between their shipping notification and arrival? I bit the bullet and ordered one of these, got the shipping notice last night. Curious what sort of wait I'm looking at

I got shipping notification on the Dec 24th and it arrived on the 6th of January.

So far I gotta say i have mixed feeling about it.

Build Quality = Metabones does win easily, switch on Falcon is somewhat flimsy, mount is fine, seems secure, no issues there.

Features = This is a hard one, to decide
Metabones = starts quickly, AF works great, very accurate, NO AF in video, No Eye-AF, No Lock-On AF, no Auto AF

Falcon = Slow starts up, when you turn the camera on with Falcon it will ack like it is focus hunting, focus peaking with turn on and off, and then its ready, about 2 seconds
In normal mode AF-S it is Contrast detect only, but in AF-C is Phase Detect
in Fn mode, camera reports all lenses as Zeiss ;) its funny seeing Exif info with FE 85 1.2 ZA or FE 150-600 GSS OSS ZA
Eye-AF works
Lock-ON AF works
Auto AF works
AF in video works, but contrast detect only, camera can strugle a bit
in Fn mode, in AF-S is contract detect only, but in AF-C, Lock-On AF Phase works.
AF performance is a bit worse then Metabones.

Both adapters have their plusses on cons, neither one is perfect, that why I hope maybe in near future we will have Metabones V that will somehow enable all the missing features, because it is possible.
