Ok, it shoots really nice video, but I cannot find any video editor that will work with it. Im sure the mega dollar ones will work but I am just playing with the video now. I am on widows 7 and have tried Camtasia, AVS video editor, and movie maker, none of which work with the file Anyone have any suggestions for a program that will work with a free trial? I'm ripping what little hair I have left out trying to get something working!!!

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!

Good photographers learn it is not what you are looking at, but what you see...............
Canon 6D with 24-105 L Main camera combo, 80-200L, 50 1.4, 85 1.8,
T2i, XTi, D30,D10,D60......and a whole buncha' lenses and stuff.

I downloaded one from Canon's 6D website. Let me see if I can find the link.

Canon's new website! I can't find squat. It used to be on the 'drivers & downloads' page. I'll post the name of the software when I can get to my other computer.

It is called EOS Movie Utility. I downloaded it from Canon. I have it installed on my computer. I can't find the download on my computer, or at Canon.com. Weird.

Honestly, I can't find ANY downloads at Canon now.

Try Blender. It's the right price.

Here it is. Under 'software'. Click 'Drivers & Downloads'. Click 'Software'. First item on the list.

Heya,

Get Handbrake. It's free. It's very easy to use, it's not a complicated weird clucnky GUI. It's a simple interface that makes a lot of sense. Convert it to whatever container you need to (.MP4, .AVI, etc) with whatever variables you want (crop, FPS, audio adjustment).

Then use any software (MS Movie Maker is actually fine for basic stuff) to do any basic effects (fade, add text, etc).

If you really want to get into video more, I would suggest you spend $30 and get a shotgun microphone (LINK) Takstar SGC-598 (external link). Way, way, way better audio than the stock camera mic. This is assuming dialog is involved (the shotgun mic). Get a good omni if you want just environmental. Shotguns lets you isolate dialog in a direction, great for kids and people talking, etc. Also, get a powered mic with the ability to amp the signal. You'll see markings like +10 db or +15/+20. That's gain. It will ramp up the signal. The point of this is so that later, you can drop the signal in post and get a cleaner more silent ambient and a focused dialog. This isn't an option on an omni. Audio makes a big difference in video though, if you're not just overlaying music.

Very best,

Are you just wanting some free program, or one that you can use to produce pro quality?

I've used many editors, some costly, and some not so. The manufacturers have been tailoring to the large consumer base recently. So they're providing some great programs that are very affordable. The "pros" have almost taken a back seat. One such program was produced by Ulead (long ago purchased by Corel), MediaStudio Pro. It ranked up there with the big dogs in video editing software. However they discontinued it since not enough market demand.

Corel offers VideoStudio, which I've used since before Corel gobbled it up. It was formerly Ulead VideoStudio. It is a fantastic program, easy to use, and edit about all video files available, and can produce very professional results. Currently,VideoStudio Pro X8 full version (not upgrade) is only $63.99. (external link) I've used this product since version 5.
From the System Requirements for VideoStudio (external link)..

Digital Single-Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras for stop motion: EOS-1D Mark III, EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS-1Ds Mark III, EOS 1D X, EOS-1D C, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 6D, EOS 7D, EOS 40D, EOS 50D, EOS 60D, EOS 60Da, EOS 450D/Rebel XSi, EOS 500D/Rebel T1i, EOS 550D/Rebel T2i, EOS 600D/Rebel T3i, EOS 650D/Rebel T4i, EOS 1000D/Rebel XS, EOS 1100D/Rebel T3, EOS M

I know it says for Stop Motion, however it also is capable of handling the video files.

I've also used Magix Movie Edit Pro (external link) picked up when Corel discontinued MovieStudio Pro. It's a good editor too, however a little more complex and costs more.

Sony makes some outstanding editors, for the pros and hobbiests. Sony Vegas Products (external link).

Each one of those do offer free trials. Find one that looks appealing, meets your needs, download the trial and decide.

Video editing software is like photo editing, it depends on what you need it to do.

Another strong vote for Corel VideoStudio 8. But get the Ultimate version. Like the poster, I came from Ulead Media Studio Pro. At the time the main industry benchmark was Premier, but Ulead beat it hand's down. I produced stuff for television broadcast with it. Never quite understood how such a good product was bungled away...

Nonetheless, back to the subject. If you can wait, I have seen the Corel VS product on sale for about $50. Watch Amazon among others. However, a strong warning: if getting it (or any software) off amazon, get the DVD product, not the Amazon download. There are complaints everywhere about all kinds of software of Amazon's problems when downloading software. Not only technical problems with the download, but licensing with the original manufacturer.

It may well be overkill for what you need but have a look at DaVinci Resolve 12 (Runs on Win 7 sp 1).

Oh, and it's free:-)

Oh come on. We all know that the Canon 6D can't do anything right, and the Canon 5DIII can't do anything wrong. I wish I would have known before I bought my 6D. :p (just being facetious)
