It seems there are a few on this board who use this lens, either on their A-mount or A7 series cameras. This is a page to share images and experiences with this ~30 year-old lens.

I found mine online, shipped from Japan for $630 in what I would say is in 7/10 condition cosmetically and 8.25/10 optically. No haze or fungus, but front element has some scratches. I have used mine on the A77 and with the LA-EA4 adapter on the A6000 and the A7R.

Coming from using the EF200 2.8Lii on a 60D, T4i and 6D I feel the HS 200 2.8 is very comparable in most every regard. While I could not get the Minolta to track on my A6000 and A7R via the adapter, it did track ok on the A77. Word is that it tracks much better on the A77ii and the second-series A7 bodies. I have also heard it tracks better with the LA-EA3 than the LA-EA4.

Much like the EF 200L, it is short enough to get into many professional sports venues and it features a retractable hood--but it is white, while its Canon counterpart is black.

At any rate, here are a few pics to start things off.

Thank you very much! The only disappointing part about my first go with the Minolta 200 was how the Gators forgot to show up for the game.

Here's one of Citrus Bowl MVP Jake Rudock from pre-game.

Very nice variety of shots with this lens!

Thanks for sharing examples of what this little powerhouse can do with the IBIS of the A7II.

There was a rare whale sighting at the Sebastian Inlet last week, but he was clear into the Intercoastal by the time I got there.

I did get a chance to shoot some birds, which is a nice change of pace for me.

You really can peel back the shadows with the A77, was shocked at the colors I got on the underside of the wings.

Is it only me or all images are more saturated in color, when compare to a relative similar Canon lens?

I think you are right, but some of it could also just be my PP. I think the Sony sensor saturates different than Canon, definitely different skin tones.

My EF200 2.8L ii had different bokeh characteristics for sure.

Really liking this A7R/Minolta 200 combo, definitely worth manual focusing to use the LA-EA3 and experience no loss of IQ.

Nice stuff here Michael and it looks like the Minolta 200 can handle a variety of different subject matter.
