There was, but no specified number. Do you do that? With weddings too?

For engagements we state 15 images in our contract. For weddings we do not have a set number in our contract, however in our FAQ on our website we give a ball park number based of our experience.

I have a range for weddings and an approximate figure for engagement shoots which is advised to the client beforehand as well as being detailed on my website.

Setting the expectations before you shoot and not afterwards saves a lot of potential headaches down the track.

we typically shoot 75-100 shots and send them to clients as proofs. From there I ask the clients to select 10 for final processing. E sessions are part of our wedding packages and we use them to get the clients comfortable for the wedding day photo process. Makes image capture process a piece of cake for wedding day....clients know this going into the sessions....win win for everyone

Mike,

I have mixed feelings about this. You never know what you are going to hear from a client after you send them unprocessed photos, especially if they are close up and catch everything. How far is too far in adjusting and will they be happy with the final edit after seeing unedited. And if they are not happy, then it goes back and forth for more edits and drags on.

I like your idea of they then know what they are going to get for the wedding but unedited photos sometimes can cause issue. They hired you based on the work they have already seen so they know how you are going to process. I think sometimes in our anxiety to please, we let the client take over for us when we should have the eye and background to make the decision on what they receive as the final product.

It depends entirely on what standard the unedited photos are. If you shoot very good SOOC it is a non issue. Personally I'd be very comfortable doing what Mike does. In my case though my finished pictures are very close to SOOC anyway so I just edit them all.

In all honesty, I do very little post processing to my files. Its pretty much straight off the camera and I have LR Presets that I use for basic needs. I dont go into Photoshop unless im paid to go into Photoshop. That means client wants the file for her album. And like pete, Im so close that there is minimal work that I need to do. Almost all my work on my website is straight off files. There are a few,10% that have PS work done, but nothing extensive.

OCF really helps avoiding a lot of time in post processing

I guess it'll depend on what the couples will want the photos for. Do they need an engagement album? A guestbook? A save the date pic? A canvas? A dozen is what I would probably deliver for a one-hour engagement session that is included in a wedding package.

They told me it was primarily for their save the date / invitation. He sent it to me once it made. They used a total of three images on it and all are images I shot. But I checked out their site on the Knot and they're all blase selfies from camera phones--mostly outdoorsey adventures. He told me they already made it before the e-shoot but are either too busy to update it with my photos or ____ (?)...

I usually give about 15 - 30 photos but sometimes edit more for my own portfolio....I will of course give them the extra edits. I think it's better to give less photos with higher quality than vise versa.

Or you could just give more higher quality images. The third scenario.
