Hi All,

I've been doing pretty well with my compressed kit, but I am really hurting for a wide fast prime for my A6000. Does anyone have experience comparing the Sigma 30mm ART, 19mm ART, and the sony 20mm?

Best,

Rick

Best,

By all accounts, 30/2.8 is the sharpest of them and until Sigma 60/2.8 arrived was likely the sharpest E-mount lens period.

19/2.8 is supposed to be sharper in corners than 20/2.8 but not drastically so. OTOH the 20 is a pancake while the Sigma is not.

I didn't have the 20 but I did have 19 and still have the 30. Not the ART but the older EX DN (same optically, by all accounts).

The 30 is indeed extremely sharp, 19 was good as well. Both are very cheap and a great value. The problem I had with Sigma primes was that under certain lighting they would push skin tones into orange / greenish cast that was very hard getting rid of. They also have longer start time than Sony lenses. Neither is a problem if you intend to use them for landscapes. Since I don't shoot many landscapes and 19mm is present on every zoom I have, I sold that one. If the 20mm wasn't that much more expensive I'd probably buy it as a walkaround prime, just because it's so tiny. I'd also expect 20 to have more accurate skin tones based on my experience with other Sony lenses. As I said though, it's not a problem for landscapes.

Finally, 30mm is not really wide and f2.8 is not really fast... but there's little choice there. 35/1.8 would be a better lens if you're ok with FL.

Ex-Canon shooter. Now Sony Nex.
