Dead Lens...

Well, sadly, it would appear as though my 24-70mm f/2.8L has given up the ghost. I got an error message on my 6D telling me to clean the contacts. I cleaned them and it didn't work. I tried it on both my 5D and my 40D and got the same result.

I really don't want to sink the money into a replacement.

Where can I find the address to send it in for repair? I'm located in Florida.

I don't use it often but, when I do, I need it to work.

Go to the canon website and submit a request for repair. They'll provide you a mailing address for the repair center nearest you.

Likely the ribbon cable. Some adventuresome types have done the repair themselves. Search the web for videos if interested.

Not being the adventuresome type when it comes to expensive lenses, I opted to ship the lens to Canon's service center in Newport News, VA and see what they tell me.

My insurance company considers it normal wear and tear, since it didn't fall or get stolen or attacked by a bear (which, let's face it, would've been awesome), so the repair won't covered. That said, I have a $500.00 deductible and I really can't foresee a repair being more than that, anyway. I've had several pieces of gear repaired over the years, and none of those repairs even came close to approaching $500.00.

They say it displays an error code 01 when attached to the camera body, and that the power diaphragm assembly and rubber mount will need to be replaced.

You may want to try a 3rd party repair company like Peachtree in Atlanta GA or United Camera Repair in Illinois. $342 sounds a bit steep for ERR 01 on a 24-70 Mk 1

Yeah, I found out that KEH does repairs for a flat rate: $235.00.

I'm getting the lens shipped back to me...
