In the old forum software I had created a link that would show the search results of any threads I had started in the Photo Sharing subforums. It appears this link is now broken in the new forum software, and I cannot seem to figure out how to create such a link in the software.

I almost posted this thread several weeks ago. But then I thought it was working. What is actually happening is that the link in my signature is sending to me to the last search I have run. So when I had done a search, selecting all the photo sharing forums and thread starter being me, and then clicked the link in my signature, it worked. So I thought it was fixed. But just now I clicked the link in my signature and it is giving me different results (a different search I have recently run).

So, any help? Anyone know how to create a link that will the results showing every thread I have started in the Photo Sharing forums?

Thanks,
heldGaze

It doesn't seem obvious to me. The search page doesn't produce "query strings" in the URL. You would need to ask Pekka if there is a way t do this.

Are you sure that the saved link didn't die over time? I'm pretty sure that the Vb software search results were only good for a limited time.

I don't know if AMASS has what you're looking for, but clicking on your username will show links to all your threads.

Yeah, my profile shows all my threads recent threads though. I just want to display the threads in the Photo Sharing forums. This worked back in the day. I can't remember from whom, but I got the idea from someone else's signature several years ago.

I've started trying to hack the URL.

Pekka, do you know if AMASS allows query string variables on the search.php page? Are these documented somewhere?

Thanks.

PS - Administrating and moderating a forum, especially one as large as this, is an enormous task. Add on top of that coding your own forum software from "a blank piece of paper" and you've blown my mind. I have experience programming, degrees in math & physics, previous career was in QA for operating systems, online services and mobile technology so I have some idea of what is involved. Truly amazing work, and thank you for all the work you do to make this forum available to everyone. It's a fantastic community resource. Bravo! Or Brava! I'm not sure since I don't know you personally ;)

Not yet. I have on the to do list some ideas for sharing searches in posts and sigs. Perhaps the best option would be to do a permanent storage for search automation (a la search history) with an id referred in SEARCH tag. There would be no point creating those for every search, though. Member could do a search, then click "MAKE A TAG" command or so, then an id would be given and the search setup stored for that. The tag would then be rendered in post as search history items are rendered now.

Thanks.

Thank you for thinking about this feature and how to implement a solution. I appreciate it. I have removed that link out of my signature for now, but will keep an eye out for when this comes around. Keep up the great work!
