Do you mean that you can't open it in Corel Draw? Or that you don't have Corel Draw so you need something else that can open it? Have you asked them what they created the file with (including version)?

Not much will handle corel draw files so you might ask the customer to export it to PDF, EPS, TIFF etc and send you that instead of CDR.
If it is a complex file, you will not get what your client intended. Lens effects that were not frozen, in-tact blends, extrusions, and perspectives will all revert to their parent object.
There is not 100% compatible CDR viewer. If it is a complex file, you will not get what your client intended. Lens effects that were not frozen, in-tact blends, extrusions, and perspectives will all revert to their parent object.

If you just need a conversion, shoot the file to CorelDraw Recovery Toolbox and Export the recovered data to CorelDraw for further editing and saving. http://www.oemailrecovery.com/coreldraw_recovery.html (external link)
