So I did a wedding for a friend of mine a while back. (I'm not a wedding photographer) My equipment was pretty meager back then, particularly for this kind of work. I did have 2 bodies, off-camera flash and a decent assortment of lenses, but nothing like the professionals. I've since upgraded a lot of my gear and glass and may be doing a wedding in the future for another friend. The location was the choice of the couple, they wanted very specific shots and they were very happy with the results. I'm not crazy about some of the distracting elements in the background (cars and people). Coming here for a little C&C.

I think it is a very solid set!

The poses and moments captured are great. They look very natural.

The cars are not that distracting. Sometimes you don't have as much of a choice. You just angle as best you can to avoid these things.

A little bit of C&C. Watch your Chromatic aberration many of the images have a solid green fringe. Especially in #5 and #7.

Great job!

A couple of suggestions have been made, and I've one suggestion to add. 5 and 7 bug me a bit as there are shadows on their faces. Use of fill flash or a reflector would lift those shadows and brighten their faces.

I think you've got a lot of promise as a wedding photographer. These really are well done for a first attempt.

Overall very nicely done! My only nitpick is the skin tones are not consistent throughout.

.

You could also open up the aperture. I'd rather have shot #3 wide open at 1.8, especially on a crop body. It would have blurred out that car in the background a lot at an acceptable loss on the subject, IMHO. The 85mm f/1.8 is pretty decent wide open. The Nifty Fifty, it ain't. Personally for that shot, I also would have had her lower the boquet a little bit and I would have taken a step to the left. It would have blocked the red tail light of the car and wouldn't have the tree coming out of her head.

Agree its a great start. :-D

Definitely a great start. Agree the cars do detract a little, but many times with weddings - circumstances (or even the couple) limit your possibilities. At that point you quickly judge your best option with what you've been dealt, and make the best of it!

Nice job!

Looking back that's something I noticed too. Thanks!

Thanks, I appreciate that. Some of those shots were in a local park, so the setting sun peaking through trees made the lighting uneven in areas like #5. #7 was a completely candid shot I didn't pose them for that one. Maybe I could bump up the shadows just on the faces a bit.

The photos and processing are really nice.

My only observation , and this does not make them bad, it's just a personal thing, is the composition. The one of bride has that car in the background and the one of the groom the tree is kinda halfway through his head. The one on the bridge, you might have been able to frame them using the bridge rails as leading lines.

*edit* looking at the bridge shot is a really nice moment, I would just crop the right hand side in a bit to remove that rail. I have no idea why buy my eye goes to it.

Just gunna go right down the list

1# Is a great moment - nice capture

2# Nice expression from the groom but I would have waited for a better expression from her (maybe you did or she didnt smile the whole time I dont know but most people smile at least for short periods of time)

3# Is perfect apart from the cars. Have her turn to the best background and shoot wider open - you had 1.8

4# Nice "mean mug" type shot. I would have either pulled him off the tree or had him lean on it or somthing.

5# Great pose but alot of awkward hands

6# After 4# this seems really feminine of a pose but works as a "joke shot". Im sure you were reading there reactions.

#7 I dont hate this shot but I feel like it is catching the groom at a weird time. I would have had them keep the pose but maybe kiss or nuzzle in.

I'm with Elrey on this one - very nicely done overall, but the skin tones seem inconsistent, especially on him.

Cute shots, though!
