I currently have a very old slik tripod that weights north of 7lbs and is great for when I am near the house, but dragging that thing around for night photos or anywhere for that matter is not fun. I am looking for something that is lighter and smaller that I can take with me on vacations, night photography or hikes. I have been looking at the MeFOTO RoadTrip Aluminum. It is listed as 3.7lbs with the ball head which is much light and smaller then my current setup. My current gear is a Canon 7D Mark II and my lenses are 50mm, 85mm primes. I also have the canon 24-105 L and the canon 70-200 L USM that I use mostly for sports hand held. My concerns are is the the Mefoto roadtrip solid enough for my longest lens if I ever decided to put it on the tripod or should I look at the Mefoto globe trotter which handles a much heavier load. I would most likely have to get the carbon model to get the weight back down to where I can use it for hikes. any suggestions on other models or options is greatly appreciated. I'm also 6 foot tall so It cant be too small.

As a new 6 foot tall Mefoto Roadtrip owner, first impressions are quite good. It's easily sturdy enough for my 5d and 17-40mm combo, and its taller than I expected. I use it as a travel tripod - small enough to fit in my cabin bag. Mine is new, and I have yet to try it out on a trip. If the ball head isn't strong enough you can replace it.

I'm about 6 foot, and have the Roadtrip model. Use it with my 7D II, and Tamron 150-600, or Canon 100-400 II, can vibrate quite a bit at times, but still a decent tripod.

If I were to do it again, I would probably go with the Globetrotter version, seems a little sturdier to me, but I haven't used it, just checked it out in store.
