We will be taking a weeklong Caribbean cruise in a few weeks, and I am trying to decide what to bring along. The cruise will have stops in Nassau, St. Thomas (we are actually going to St. John's) and St. Maarten. The last Caribbean cruise I was on was over 26 years ago, which had stops in two of the same places -- St. Maarten will be a new stop. For this cruise, we will be traveling with a group of about 16 people. On previous cruises to Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribben, it was just my wife and I traveling alone.
I plan on taking my EOS M, EF-M 22mm pancake lens and Speedlite 270EX, but am also considering bringing my 5D3 and a couple of lenses. If I leave the 5D3 at home, I will also bring along a EF-M 18-55 for general purpose landscapes. I'm just not sure if there will be enough landscape photo opportunities to make bringing along the 5D3 and lenses worthwhile. I do remember St. John's having some great scenery, but do not remember much about Nassau. I will be leaving the tripod at home for this trip, no matter what I decide to bring.
If I do bring along the 5D3, the next decision is which lenses to pack. I would like to keep it at two lenses, and one will probably be the EF 16-35 f/4 IS. I found that lens useful on board the ship during an Alaskan cruise a couple of years ago. For a second lens, I am waffling between the 24-105L and 70-200 f/4 IS. The 24-105L would make for a great single walk around lens solution while on shore. I am not sure how much use I would find in a telephoto lens for some tighter landscapes. I am not expecting any wildlife shooting on this trip, as it does not appear to be the right time to do any whale watching in this region.
Does anyone who has been to these same ports have any advice they would like to share?
Regardless, I will be bringing the EOS M + 22mm, since it takes up so little room and will be easy to carry around at times when I do not want to carry the 5D3.
