I am at a dilemma. Ive been using MeehanPhotography for about 6 months now on flickr, 500px and MM. I recently did a shoot with a model and she posted some stuff on FB and #MeehanPhotography. Since this is the first time I noticed someone doing this I FB searched the name and came upon someone else using this for there external website, but only on the external site and watermark, on FB he adds hist first name.

Looking on FB everything points to the business being shut down (no posts on his photography page since Dec 13 and his personal page states that he left the business in Dec 15 and now runs a brewery. Meehanphotography.com leads you to a valid page but there is absolutely no content. Nothing.

Should I change my name? I was using MeehanPhotog for a while , though the photog jsut doesnt sound great or just keep using the name and sort of edge in and wait till the domain lapses. Im not particularly interested in the domain but I figure snatch it up while I can so I dotn worry about people having to find some weird domain or someone else that isnt me

Unless he left the biz because he was caught chopping women into chum and making lamp shades out of their skin I don't see that there is any reason to change your name. A potential confusion is no more. Check the domain, see when it is up for renewal, put a watch on it and buy it when available.

Was he actually in the same market and location as you?

Send the guy an email and/or facebook message, ask if you can buy the domain and facebook page. If you're polite and lucky, he might just give them for free.
