Just curious what 70-200's you guys are using with your full frame cameras, particularly if anyone is using the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8?

There is no way on earth I can justify the price tag for the Nikon 70-200 VR II as much as I'd love to but I read or saw somewhere in a review that they recommended the Sigma for DX cameras and to get the Nikon for FX. Not sure if this was just someone getting a backhand from Nikon to push their lens or whether it's advice that should be taken?

I have used the old Nikon and it was very nice.
The new Nikon is like you say, too expensive for most people.
The Sigma I have not tried, but I have not read too much nice about it ether.

The Tamron 70-200 gets good revives and if I would get an new 70-200, I would look more into the Tamron myself.

Good shout, I've only really seen or read reviews for the older Tamron 70-200 and it seemed pretty bad, quite the contrary for the newer model.. might have a winner there!

I've already placed an order for them Tamron, the reasonable price, good reviews and 5 year warranty swung it for me. Thanks though

what, you saying I can't get 14fps when I have set the shutter speed to 1/2s. I wont 14FPS no matter what shutter speed I have the camera set too, gee canon get with it. I think they are going backwards cause it can't even do this. Gezzzzz

ok now being more serious, I am one of those in favour of USB-C. The connector allows more than just a way to transfer photos from the camera. While this camera is designed for those that require action, it's not just sports that require this. Wildlife photographers also require speed and you can say that even a photojournalist could be a user for this type of camera.

The USB-C connector is faster than USB3. it takes up less space in the device and it can allow the deviced to be charged via this cable. I can forsee a usb-c hard drive with battery that you can plug in to the the camera and transfer photos from the cards to the HDD while still taking the photos. Could be a way to backup photos on the go and also not redcuing the power on the camera.

I have a VR1 70-200 and find it pretty good. The only thing about this lens that has me thinking of moving it on is the flare it produces if you get direct sunlight on the front element. It is diabolical. Other than that it performs well (only using on a D4 so higher MP bodies may vary). I have also experienced AF hunting with it using a CPL and 1.4x extender.

In comparison to the VR2 I had previously loaned I think its IQ was comparable (I'd give overall IQ to the newer lens), AF speed was maybe a touch slower on the older lens but the hood design is so much better for anyone wanting to stand the lens upright while switching on the body. That said, the newer design reduces vignetting.

If I had a spare $1000 to invest in this focal length I'd happily trade up to the VR2 though

I run the Tamron 70-200 2.8 DI VC on my D750. Killer combo IMO. It will do 90% of what I need. Sharp, fast to focus, good VR (VC in Tammy's case), a decent weight, and maybe $1,200 less than Nikon. I typically buy Nikon, but like you simply would not pay that kind of money. I get paid to shoot portraits and the Tammy gets used as much as my Nikon 85mm 1.8G. I simply Love the results I get with it. You name the occassion, and 9 times out of 10 my D750 and the Tammy are up to the task. Feel free to shoot questions if you have them. I can post some pics in a few.

I have spent lots of effort , time and money trying to get a 70-200 I would be happy with

Up to that point my other 2.8 was the Nikon 24-70 , body was a D700

First was a used Tokina 70-200 2.8 , then came a used Sigma 70-200

Both lenses did the job for about 4 months I had them and I was very happy . Luckly sold them for only slight loss

My mistake was pixel peeping @ 70mm to compare to my 24-70

Decided to spend a bit more and went to a used but like new Nikon 80-200 . Awesome lense....best so far but being a D lense focus was noticeably slower

Came across a nice used 70-200 VRI . Loved this lens and figured it was a keeper .

Didn't care that corners are bit soft on FF since most of my pics , the framing / subject / important details weren't in corner

All was good until I picked up a D810 body . Found myself a cropping fool to make multiple pictures from one exposure . All of a sudden , corner sharpness wasn't as good as center of frame

Sigh...., saved my pennies and picked up a 70-200 VRII

Knowing what I know know, I should have dove into a 70-200 VRI or VRII without wasting time and money on the Tokina / Sigma / 80-200

IMO you should save up for a used 70-200

Surprisingly, the lens that surprises me was a Tamron 70-300 Di VC . I picked one up as a travel lens after trying the Nikon 70-300

The VC works amazingly well in this lens and I was very impressed with sharpness ( compared it to my 70-200 and 24-700 )
