Hello, I have several Sony point and shoot Cyber shot cameras.

The car show will be indoors. Any tips on settings?

My Cybershot has many modes, I think I will shoot in manual.

My other Sony's have a 28mm lens and a 50mm I think.

I am exited to go and shoot, my Cyber shot takes some of the best images I have seen, so hopefully I can get some good ones.

I don't want to use flash because the cars always look washout and funny.

Every show is different & indoor shows are the toughest with crowds walking around, so... Auto show tips?

Help shooting auto show?

Try for your own viewpoint on the show:
2009 North American Auto Show - Detroit

Very nice indoor show shots by Michael!

Thanks for the links.

I am showing up early but will still have to work around the crowds, I'll use the camera at wide angle to help eliminate the crowds.

I like to use a somewhat fast shutter speed to avoid camera shake.

I will post some images tomorrow after I process them, I try and get it right in the camera and maybe spend 3-5 minutes in photoshop.

Here is a example of my photography, this is a night shot, I like the dark. This guy wouldn't get out of my way, and I didn't want to get him angry.

I've always wanted to go a car show with classic cars, and use heavy ND filters & long exposure on a tripod to eliminate the people. Probably not possible to really do it though, someone is inevitably going to stand in front of you for a while, or someone will bump your tripod, etc. Maybe one day...

Very best,

Very best,

Instead you can take a series of photos, even with the people in them. Then use photoshop to remove the people.

This is done by loading the photos as layers in photoshop and then:

Layer –> Smart Object –> Stack Mode - > Mediab

It remove transient objects aka people, and leaves only static items aka cars and buildings.

True!

Still has the same issues though as a long exposure, still need a tripod and static location, would need to burn a ton of shutter actutations along with it.

Hrm...

Unfortunately your cybershots may not be able to shoot indoors Without flash. Unfortunately car show photography never lives up to your expectations. The cars are almost always parked to overlap and block each other, the hoods are often up, there is almost someone or something in the way. Indoors you will most likely be dealing with lights that aren't full spectrum so non flash photos won't have true color. The upside of this dismal assessment, don't worry as much about photos, enjoy the show and have fun.

My Cyber Shot seems to do ok indoors, but you might be right.

All that you mention will be fun challenges to overcome.

Very best,

The owner actually got in and out of his car during the exposure.
