Yeah, I'll be honest, I don't follow much of Canons new stuff. I am honestly a Nikon man, but switched to Canon because of the 135L. And to this point I have been underwhelmed. But I will give it a full summer before I give up on it and switch back to Nikon.

I certainly hope Signa does make a 135, even if it is only 135 F2 with OS, I don't need 1.8

I couldnt jusfify paying $1800 for a IS version as much as I would love one. The non IS is a great lens once you figure out how to use it, but on high pixel density bodies it can be finicky with motion blur. Is would allow me to balance flash and ambient in a wider range of circumstances.

That's my issue too. With sync being 1/160, there is very little room for error considering the 1/focal length rule at 135mm.

If they put the current new micro contrast look Canon has at the moment with all of their newer MK2 and fresh new lenses they would have to throw on that "Nano coating". They also must introduce a similar IS system like the one they've put in the 100L.

"IF" they introduce that Nano coating I'm assuming the creamy bokeh will get more "contrasty". Seems most new Canon lenses will have more contrast in the bokeh.

The 135L has similar "sharpness" look as the 85L IMO. If they changed that lens I'd imagine they would loose sales if they increase the price. IMO the higher sales of this lens is due to the cheaper bang for buck price for a fantastic lens. The 135 L is one of the cheaper "L" designated lenses besides the 17-40L, 24-70L f/4IS , 16-35L f/4IS which are all f/4 slower zooms.

Everyone is satisfied with the current performer until they see the leap in image quality offered by the next offering. Given that razor sharp images with good contrast are easier to obtain for lenses with longer focal lengths, and given that the current lens is spectacular at f2, we don't really complain about IQ with this lens. I'm certain that any future 'upgrade' using the newest coatings and technologies will offer flawless optics. There is no competition in this category so I doubt Canon is in a hurry to replace the beloved 135L. I would personally love to see a new iteration with IS. Then the original 135L wouldn't have to be replaced and stay available as a lower cost option.

I just recently bought this lens used for only $599. I'm loving it. I thought I heard a rumor that Tamron is coming out with an IS version of this lens. Looks like Tamron will likely come out with one before either canon or Sigma.

I'm 100% under the if it's not broke don't fix it mindset here. I've hardly ever found myself needing IS on my 135. Canon hit gold with this lens, as it is 20 years old and still one of the best portrait lenses on the market. Could they make it better? Sure, just look at the 24-70 II, 70-200 II, and 200 f2. No one thought the previous generations of those lenses could be improved on, and they were. I wouldn't pay $1500 for a new 135 though, even if it had IS and slightly better IQ.

Same ole, same Ole...
The moment IS version comes out, you all will sell your current non-IS at a lot cheaper than what you can sell today, to buy the IS one.
Wait and see...
May be the smart ones........right now!

I don't think I will. I know the benefit of IS, but I don't find it a necessity like a lot of people. I don't own any lenses with IS currently.

I wouldn't pay double the price for IS. Way too rich for my blood, and I don't shoot at that FL enough to warrant it. Now if Sigma or Tamron came out with one, yeah, I'd be game because the price would be very competitive :)

By the time Canon introduce IS onto the 135, there should be a Tamron 135 f2 VC or a Sigma 135 f1.4 art on the market.

Based on past history, I think Canon will come out with a 135 f4 IS first before a f2 IS.

135/1.4? Have you considered just how large that would be? Think 200 f/2L
