Guy Senior ~ New Hampshire

I had twice as many guy Seniors this year than girl, which was a great opportunity for me. It allowed me to stretch a bit and get out of my comfort zone. I still find guys harder to pose and, yes, most are a little more awkward in front of the camera, but I am determined to make them shine! I always joke, "Do it for Mom!" (because she is the one usually pushing for the portraits,) but I know they will love them and see them as a valuable capture in time some day. Still learning, but happy to share some from a session this past fall (playing catch-up!) Comments/critique is welcome and ask me anything.

1.) We found a beautiful pond in Newport, NH at peak-foliage time!

One More. I like to add an "environmental" shot in every session.

This is beautiful work Kristin - very nicely done and thanks for sharing. Great framing in shots 1, 2 & 3 and I love the repeating "verticals" in #7. Solid use of selective DOF too.

My only quibble is what I consider to be an overly large watermark that really detracts from your attractive imagery, most especially where you have it hanging over his head; really kills the mood. If you must add a watermark I would suggest a smaller one in one consistent location on the photo, probably in the lower right corner.

I can't think of a single bridge in the UK with a roof, why do so many American bridges have roofs?? Good pictures by the way

We have a long tradition of wooden covered bridges . Unlike so much of what you have in the UK - ie. stone bridges - the roof is designed to protect the structural wood components from decay.

outstanding work, you frame/pose your subject(s) very well. the colors / backgrounds were very nicely chosen...beautiful!

Thanks for the great feedback! I totally understand about the watermark and it's good food-for-though. I have worried about putting it in a place where it can be easily cropped out, but I understand that many just don't worry about that anymore.

Hmmm, good question -- not sure! I would think in case it rains, but what about the rest of the road? LOL. Maybe because they look nice; like little barns. They are EVERYWHERE in New England and big tourist attractions. Each bridge is numbered, too, (and many named) though I can't remember the number of this one.

Could be he's just a laid back kind of guy and all his excitement was used up in #1 & 2; I've known people like that

'Good set. But I agree with the issue of the watermark... I always create two folders of my stuff - one with (for public display) and one without (for the client). Not sure if that's what you're also doing. I insist in my contracts that the clients ONLY post the watermarked images if they are showing them on social media. They usually ignore me. LOL.

Great set Kristin! I think your watermarks are very appropiate ( size and location) relative to the photos.Guys can be tough to get any emotion out of but in the end they are his photos.

Thanks! He may have been, LOL. Actually, just really relaxed, so I was very happy about that (as opposed to nervous and tense.) It's not easy for the guys as I stated in my OP. Also, it's very hard to get a big smile out of teens and he wasn't having that.

He is a super-quiet, laid-back guy. Very happy he'd smile even a little.

Thanks! Yes, I only use the watermark for web sharing and give both to clients who purchase the files.
