No wonder I can't get any owls in my owl house!

This looks too familiar. About 10 years ago, my wife started feeding some squirrels that hung around our house and they built a big nest in one of our large trees. A hawk attacked their nest and knocked it out of the tree, so my wife had me build a squirrel house for them. I mounted the house in a large tree and it only took the squirrels a couple of days to move in. After about a year, a swarm of bees decided to take it over and I had to call a beekeeper for help. One evening he came and took the squirrel house and all the bees with him. That winter was colder than normal and since I hadn't bothered to replace their house, the squirrels decided to move into our attic. That was the end of the squirrel feeding. Now my wife just feeds feral cats.

Here's a pic of some of the bees swarming the squirrel house.

Ha, funny, Phil. However, if an owl decides it wants your owl house, that squirrel's days will be numbered! I put two up last fall too, and am hoping one or both will get discovered by the intended tenants.

Yes, Ian. Nothing better for an owl than to move in to a new home and have dinner already waiting for you. :p
