I used to have the 10-22. I sold it because I was moving to full frame. Nothing wrong with the lens. I currently have the 10-18.

The 10-18 is optically superior to the 10-22, but not by much. It also is 2/3-stop slower, and 1/3 the price, if you buy new. The 10-18 is much smaller and lighter than the 10-22. The real difference to me is that the 10-18 has IS and STM. Both make it a very nice UWA for video with the DPAF of the 70D or 7DII.

The only reason to prefer the 10-22 is if you need the extra 4mm on the long end. I doubt it makes much difference to most folks.

Either will work just fine for you, then. Both are very nice, optically.

Heya,

If there were "L's" for APS-C, the 10-22 and the 17-55 F2.8 IS would be them. These are the APS-C versions of the 17-40 and the 24-70 basically if you think about it.

The 10-18 STM is a good lens, it has IS (if you need that, personally on wide angle, I see IS as a function for video, not for still photography, you can get away with super low shutter speed at wide angle as it is), it has good optics. It's inexpensive. What it doesn't have is an expanded focal length and for me, one big feature, how it handles flare. It handles flare "ok" but not the best at it. And that's the big difference between the 10-18 and the 10-22, the 10-22 has more focal range and the biggest reason I went with the 10-22 is for it's flare resistance, you can point the thing at the sun and barely get flaring, where other lenses just flare right up.

If you're going to live at 10mm basically, do video, and rarely ever have sun in your image (or other very bright sources of light), then the 10-18 is a great buy. Otherwise, the 10-22 is the way to go.

Very best,

The other good reason is flare. The 10-18 STM is more prone to flare than the 10-22. The hood helps.
