The only thing I see missing on the back of the IDX II is the AF area selection lever. I wish my 5D3 had it but I could live without it.

That's one of the first things I noticed too. I love that lever and I wish the new 1D X had it too. I suspect weatherproofing must be why.

Cheers,

Several different people across the internet are saying that Canon Australia has confirmed that some retail Canon 1D X Mark IIs will begin arriving on April 29 in Australia.

I just watched a video taken at NAB with a Canon USA rep saying that the Canon 1D X Mark II will begin shipping in May in the United States.

Looks like May 1st is being solidified. Now the only question is how many will the store you pre-ordered from get in their first shipment?

Here's the best beta-version unboxing video yet:

I just discovered this video about Hauke's experience with the Canon 1D X Mark II as a videographer. It's definitely worth watching!

And Abraham Joffe's experience with the new focus tracking was nothing short of spectacular too:

Ok, that wraps up this evening's viewing pleasure!

And here's some better than just pointing it at a wall footage showcasing the camera at 120fps at 1080P.

It has now been confirmed: the Sony plant was badly damaged during the earthquake last week and will be shut down for awhile. As a result, Nikon has announced delays to several of their models since Sony provides Nikon with their sensors, with delays ranging from 2-4 months.

There has been no indication that Canon received any damage and as of now, it appears that it's almost business as normal. The entire region is being affected by the aftermath of the earthquake, so there are bound to be some very minor delays related to distribution, etc.

You didn't hear Jonney? Canon released the 5D Mark IV you've been constantly talking about. Look around, it's all over the web.

As seen in Abraham Joffes video you linked to, the 1Dx2 has the same exact TYPE of "lever switch around a button" adorning it to switch video functions. So the omission is not likely due to any physical limitation. At the same time, of Canon wanted to provide the functionality, and avoid the lever, they could make it a button instead.

I wonder if once we see these in our hands if the possibility if setting up say the "Q" button for example to mirror the 7D2 lever via custom functions is possible?

Good point. I didn't think about that lever!

Hopefully there's a way to change it quickly. Sometimes having to push two buttons can be awkward. I wonder if Canon has traditionally used two buttons (before the 7D MII lever) to avoid a bump that might inadvertently change it?

Cheers,
Bryan

So I guess this proves that Canon is not sourcing their new image sensors from Sony for better DR. This may disappoint some people.

On 5D3 there is a way to do what the lever does, but it's far less intuitive. You push the X button and scroll with the main dial (I think, from memory)
I do not believe any 1D before the 1Dx could do anything like this. we did not have the zone systems etc.
