Looks like UK stock will start shipping on the 28th April.

That lines up with the chatter in Australia: April 28th for them as well.

Read the comments at Fred Miranda. Test looks awesome for Canon shooters.

Might add to all the Nay Sayers..... The testers got it right and told it like it was. SO MUCH for so and so is a paid Canon or Nikon shooter so they are going to tell you what they want to say to keep their positions with the perspective MFG's

Thats total BS in this day and age of photography !!!!

Ole and Andy and Damian Do not need to lie or stretch the truth. They have their stuff together. End of conversation.

Everything I have read and Now see points to captain obvious.

These updates are game changers for both MFG's followers.

Canon finally gets a sensor with great Dynamic range, dark/shadow retention, usable ISO at 25000 on a body with the best AF system of the market.

Nikon has a sensor that performs better with ISO ( probably a full stop ), has great dynamic range, the best dark/shadow retention on the market and has the 2nd best AF system on the market.

Both MFG's have the best glass available to slap on these bodies to get the best optical performance we have ever seen to date.

Its going to be very difficult from this release forward to jump around from body to body especially for professionals who are very much invested with the perspective line ups they use. Dont forget, we are talking body and glass investment only. Now factor in speedlights, OCF lighting investments and it makes it darn near impossible to switch around.

For canon shooters I think this is a great investment considering the 1DxS was $6500.00 and held that spot for such a long time. I would still prefer the 1.3 sensor but I get why canon did what they did. I think the move probably allows the 1Dx2 to come in at this price point and Im very sure its going to hold ( like the 1Dx1) until next update.

This is a body that I can keep and use for 6-8 yrs. 25000 ISO is just unbelievable to me. I cant image needing anything more on a body. I want to be the guy at the next update that says im still perfectly happy with this 1Dx2.

Nikon D5 will get camera of the year.
Bo
Remarkable ISO performance and best dark shadow retention on the market makes this cameras the best in class its for working pros.

Good grief Mike! I was calm this morning but reading your post got me all fired up and excited!! I can't wait to unbox this beauty and see what she can do! I just started using my Canon 5DsR and I'm blown away by it so far. I've never been so excited by the tools available to all of us as I am right now. It's going to be a fun year!

What you will all like is the "Detail Set" which are sub menus in AF-ON and * button programming. The 7D2 can activate the following when you press a BBF which I expect the 1Dx II will have. There may be additional options.

Yes! If on the DXii had the thumb switch from the 7Dii, that is a nice feature..already mentioned probably due to
weather restraints but isn't the 7Dii sealed?

Again, can't be a weather issue as it's already on the 1Dx in the form of the toggle for video. Exact same kind of arrangement.

From the RAWs available so far both cameras perform stunningly at ISO 25k, would not want to chose one based on that alone. I am guessing the Nikon will beat the Canon on DR but the Canon does show alot of improvent shadow wise.

The Nikon will fall flat in video, dual-pixel and longer recording times will make the Canon the go to body. Might not bother some, will be the deal breaker for others.

Clean from 8-10K and I'll be elated for my environment.
Shot this morning with the 7Dii at 4K and just too much noise.
I know others with 7Dii go even higher but after processing my detail is gone.

What are you using for raw processing and post processing?

I was shooting the cat this morning as the kids are all still in bed, and happened to be at ISO 4000 myself to stop her from movement at 100mm. This is directly from the camera, no post processing. Perhaps I am a bit more forgiving I guess.

Now under less light, and especially artificial lighting at higher ISOs (this was very low light as evidenced by the EXIF and the cat's eyes), I lose alot of detail. Here is 12800 right from the raw through DPP, then a 100% crop top, and post processed bottom. 12800 is an "acquired taste", perhaps. If I had a 1DX, this would obviously be much cleaner, and I would love to try out a 1DX2, but with the huge restructuring of NS, all our plans for large purchases are on hold. :(

Nice review, with a bit of action thrown in to really show some of its strengths...

TeamsSpeed I just posted this one on the 7Dii thread. ISO 5000.
I'd reckon it's my gradeschool level processing. Admittedly I was a ways from the bird.
I use whatever a whim says to use for denoising-NIK, Noiseware, LRcc, Topaz.....I'd prefer
not to denoise at all :)

Is that a 100% crop? Try running your raw file through DPP, Canon has really improved it. That might be all the post processing you need. My shots have no post processing at all though, other than running my raw through DPP.

You can denoise and still retain quite a bit of the detail, but it takes practice and a bit of understanding of the tools you use. If you pick just one of those denoisers and learn their settings, etc, then I feel the consistency of using just one tool will probably yield better results long-term.

I guess I would be a bit hesitant to expect that the 1DX2 will be better after you shoot 1-2 stops higher ISO, then run the same type of processing on the image, then resize it up to make the subject material cover the same size as what you get with the 7D2. I hope I am wrong though!

Why do you assume that? Sometimes better performance at high ISOs means poorer DR at lower ISOs . DP Review was not impressed with the DR of the D5.
