I was listening to voicemails last night and accidentally deleted one by pressing the "7" on the touch screen with my cheek.

I talk to lots of folks who seem intent on punctuating their conversations with the beep of dialed numbers produced in the same way.

And I get a fair number of calls and voicemails from purses and pockets where the owner of the phone has no idea that I'm on the line...

Like I've said, touch screen functionality would be nice for a few more things than currently slotted, but as a 1Dx owner and a 1Dx II owner to be I'll stick with the buttons for camera controls during the shoot.

BTW, I finished configuring my Logitech Harmony 880 the other night and I am overjoyed to, once again, have real buttons to control my TV, DVR and accessories. My Logitech Harmony One with its craptastic touch screen is off to the dustbin...

So with you on those Harmony Remotes...got to have those buttons! :)

A simple double tap to turn the screen off and on would be an easy solution

Even safer would be a drawn specific shape, even something as simple as outlining the LCD rectangle near the edges. How could that happen by accident?

As I mentioned earlier I really like touchscreens. Some people swear by them, but in my experience they are not always the best tool to use on every device or in every situation. While I'm not opposed to a touch screen on a DSLR, I would most probably turn off the function or limit it depending on the control options.

Conversely, in my experience a button or dial is not always the best tool to use on every device or in every situation. Options are always preferred.

I really dislike Harmony's web interface to set up the remote though. I had a touch screen programmable remote back in the late 1990s (Philips Pronto). I still have it actually. It's interface was better, strangely. :)

harmony's interface has changed a ton over the years. You can do multiple remotes for one account nowadays. It's good enough, but still a bit clunky for some finer control. For the most part, gets the job done. Remote quality isnt the greatest, have broke 7 remotes, 3-4 from drops, the rest from poor sticky buttons that stop working. I'll probably look for a case for the remote if such a thing exists, I could drop my remotes on a padded surface and it would still break......

At a Nikon event in WA a presenter was asked about the touch screen, and why it was only for image review. His statement was that it was determined that it would be too easy to change settings when you did not want to. Which is funny as that is exactly what I thought of when I first heard we are getting them. I am more than happy with that setup as is.
Was this Nikon's official position..and or his opinion?? who knows. What I am sure of is there will be 2 pages min trying to prove that you would never accidentally change settings with a touch screen..at touch screen you have never touched or seen..:-)
Gary

Nikon's implementation of using the two scroll wheels to move through the menus allows you to be as quick, if not quicker than a touch screen so I can see the reduced necessity for touch control of menus in their case

This is something that can be done with Canon as well. Pressing Q on the newer cameras lets you jump tabs as well.

That's what canon gets for addressing the DR issue (theoretically).

We would have had 16 pages on DR and shadow noise, so this is quite an improvement.

in all seriousness, Canon seems to have upped their game with this camera body. it's not the body for me since I shoot landscape, but it's definitely a large improvement unless real world tests fall apart. I didn't seen enough of a difference in the 5D3, and had no reason to get a 1DX or even this one. The 5DsR made me think really hard about picking up a new body though. What is most interesting to me about this release is what it means for the future of the 5D series (as in 5D4) or the 5DsR2. If the 4 happens, and it has something north of 30mp with this new sensor technology, I'll probably choose that. Failing that, I'll be looking at the next 5Ds.
