Another angle on touch screens=touch focus for stills shooting.
Not really applicable to the 1DXii saga but there is a camera that will allow you to keep your eye to the EVF, right hand holding camera of course with right thumb working almost all buttons AND
left thumb tapping the screen to where you want focus. It's the Lumix GX8. You can even tap to focus and release the shutter.
This Lumix has an articulating EVF and can tilt from normal 90 degree use to straight up 0 degree use (you looking straight down). Why important? Because with just a minimal amount of tilt up
it clears an operable space for your left thumb to move about the touch screen freely without your face/cheek getting in the way.
I guess this is most analogous to camera whack-a-mole :) but for focus & recompose it is brilliant only helped by the instantaneous focus of the latest mFT bodies.
When one compares moving dials or even joysticks/toggles to get to a specific focus point with touch focus there is no comparison.
Well anyway just thinking out loud.

I think the touch to focus functionality works for the 1DX II when you are using Live View. However, if you shoot with the OVF on the 1D, you won't be able to reach the back of the screen with your left hand without basically letting go of the lens. Your right thumb will also barely reach the right one third of the touch screen in normal shooting position.

It would seem that tolerances of others needs are diminishing in this thread.

Please remember that what may work for you is not always going to agree with what works for someone else. We are all different and have different preferences. Fighting over something that is 100% a personal preference will gain you nothing.

Darn it, blue? Who needs blue, we need red or purple but blue? Won't be buying in to this forum if the mods all use blue text ;)

i do have the grip for my 5d3. used it like 2x out of hundreds of outings since.

I bought the grip for my 5D3 for portrait shoots (especially those where I was crouching down for portrait format shots of kids) as I felt it might make things more comfortable. Turns out I love the handling of the camera so much with it on it's become a permanent fixture. However, it is useful to be able to remove it when travelling (flight luggage restrictions) or hiking (less to carry). I.e. I like the grip, but I like the fact you can remove it.

Yup, Cinema EOS as well as the Sony equivalent have XLR inputs; a high quality shotgun microphone usually goes well with them.

You could use a small mic amp though surely (to take XLR and output to a jack). It's more to carry and set up, but if you're in the realm of good mics (and all the other paraphernalia required for pro or semi-pro video work) then it's probably a small inconvenience.

ummm.... k... no smiley face? guess good for you?

well, if you're 100% serious... i do have the grip for my 5d3. used it like 2x out of hundreds of outings since.

i spy a eos m in your signature but you also own a 1d4.... hmmmmmmmm..... -?

It is a personal preference and I totally get it but people over exaggerate the size and weight of a 1D size body. It's nothing more than the 5D Gripped. it's literally the same size and weight. So if you can handle that what is the big deal? I came from a 7D ii, 70D, and 6D. When I first held the 1D Mark IV, I was like holy cow this fits perfectly in my hands but it is indeed heavy. Two days later... that issue was gone for me meaning you get use to the weight quick. I thought the 70-200 f2.8 was huge when I first got it, Now it's nothing but a tiny toy to me. :-)

I have done this in the past in my student filmmaking day when I was using DSLR's and other non-dedicated cheap options, and unless you opt for a high quality preamp/field recorder (these tend to be more expensive and larger), the XLR input on the cinema cameras do a better job with less hassle.

I think it your opinion rather than fact. For some people anything bigger than a point & shoot is too big and heavy. Size and weight is all relative and what's too big and heavy for you will not be too big and heavy for someone else. I'm not sure how you can state it as an absolute fact. I use a 7D Mark II with an OEM grip. The combo is not that much smaller then a 1Dx II and is around 9 ozs lighter. The 1Dx II is intended as a camera for professionals. I certainly would not agree that the its too big and heavy on an absolute basis. I guess my question is, too big and heavy for what?

Here is his original post, clearly it is his opinion. Somehow that got missed in both replies?

Also, I always assume it's somebody's opinion when they post something, even if they say it is fact. Unless they are a designated foremost authority on something or have substantiated their claim with other references, their "fact" is still "opinion". :)
