Yep, Fuji now have a 100-400 too. Sony are spoilt with the 70-400, a 300/2.8 and a multitude of long lens inc a Minolta 300/2.8 So to say there are no long lens options is wrong.

Getting back to the task at hand, I present to you today's presentation on the Canon 1D X Mark II. Scott Kelby's show, The Grid. This episode features the only two photographers that shot with the Canon 1D X Mark II at the Super Bowl and it also includes Rudy Winston, Canon USA's still imaging technical expert.

Rudy's knowledge of cameras is as good as it gets. Peter Read Miller is a Sports Illustrated staff photographer who's work has been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated over 100 times and he has photographed 38 Super Bowls. Damian Strohmeyer has completed over 2,000 assignments for Sports Illustrated and his work has been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated over 70 times and he has photographed the last 28 Super Bowls. Needless to say, these guys know a thing or two about photographing sports.

Warning, this video is 1 hr and 19 mins long, so grab a cup of coffee or be prepared to watch it over the course of several segments. It doesn't necessarily bring to light a lot of new information, but it does reinforce some of the things we've all been talking about over the last few weeks. And of course, it is fun to listen to two of the world's best sports photographers and it's always a joy to listen to Rudy when he talks about cameras and their capabilities.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n_wTSDkvu8 (external link)

Some notable moments:
8:00 - 9:18: talk about the greatly improved color and contrast at high ISOs
21:55 - 23:05: discussion on why Canon choose not to go with two CFast slots
27:30 - 28:45: Rudy discusses AF at f/8 across all AF focus points
35:15 - 36:56: Discussion on the new Diffraction Correction feature. I'm assuming this is JPEG only?
1:08:10 onward: Rudy leaves and the discussion switches more to football with both Peter and Damian

I hope some of you find this useful. And hey...we're one day closer to the end of April!

Cheers,
Bryan

I think we covered alot of these things over in the other 1DXII thread. I almost wonder if these should be merged.

Oh wow, I didn't even know that thread existed...probably because it hasn't had a post in almost a month so I did not see it. (I was on an intense but super fun 14-hours-day, 7-days-week project for 3 weeks after the 1DX MII announcement, so I didn't get in on most of the early conversations.)

Cheers,
Bryan

It always happens, we create an "Official XYZ" thread, but invariably those that don't want to get scooped create new threads, then the mods decide on how things should be put back together. Since that thread went inactive though, I suppose it won't ever merge into this thread.

I pre-ordered before the B&H and Adorama emails got to me - within 15 minutes of the official announcement. :)

I pre-ordered and am #3 in line with my preferred retailer. I should get it when they receive their first shipment. I can hardly wait!

Hey, the original Canon 1D X is still an amazing camera and for a used one, you should pay half of what the new Mark II costs, which is a steal of a deal!

Cheers,
Bryan

I am not sure whether the below thread of Martinka from Dpreview was shared here. Looks very promising :

Was wondering why under details they all say 1/10000 shutter speed. That can't be accurate at all.

Ah, didn't know that, AMASS is so polished for the end users, I figured all the admin stuff was probably finished. :)

Iv asked a couple of shops to let me know when its in I will then get one even though I'm very disappointed with the MP count .
That said I will also get a ef 400 f4 do mkII to replace my 300f 2.8is L to make up for the low MP count
As I mainly shoot birds so that will pull a bit back

Rob.
