Canon EF 24-105 date code

Is this the earlier lens that had problems, code is UU0104.

I went to try out the Canon EF 24-70 2.8 but they only had this one in so I'm not to sure if this will suit my needs, I was more or less stuck on the 24-70 but now I have tryed this one I'm not to sure which one to go for. what I would use it for is studio work children/product, plus a genaral walkabout lens or do you think I should go for the Canon EF 24-70 2.8.

100% crop from raw iso 1600 f4 1/40 not to bad.

That lens was built in January of 2006. Sounds pretty fresh to me.
