It's not made for little guys. You could argue it's a bargain relative to the launch prices of the 1DIII and 1DsIII considering that the X-series took over both of those product lines. Personally I can't afford the depreciation on the 1-series, or more accurately it's not worth it to me, which is why I always stay a generation behind on bodies. I'm very much looking forward to picking up a used 1DX when they plunge below $3000 in the near future though.

Anybody find the dynamic range of the Mark II? Said to be an improvement--I'm wondering if it has finally caught up to Nikon.

Did you notice the release price of the 1Dx? Because based on that the price of the 1Dx II is low.

On the note of price, you'd think for $6k people would be done with CF and be ready to adopt the new tech be it CFast or XQD. Not sure why they went with dual format again. The sluggish SD card slot is one of my biggest complaints about my 5dIII

Yes, and the other is compact flash.

Why replace one shoe with a hole in it and keep the old one?

Because why force someone to upgrade all of their storage media to buy your cam, instead of transitioning, as they've done?

Seems to me like water under the bridge at that point. Anyone with $6k to be an early adopter of the latest and greatest isn't fretting over the cost of new media.

It is very common for marketing to create a transitional element in any new release, so that you can garner more sales from those that don't need, or want, or have the money, to change to new formats.

This is one of the many reasons that Canon has kept the LP-E4 footprint across the last 5-6 1D series bodies, but still introduced new improved versions of the LP-E4.

People have investments in cards, batteries and other accessories, and it makes good business sense to create a bridged product to allow those folks to buy new cameras without a huge outlay of other money to replace accessories.

On a side note, I am quite happy with CF, they work well and are fast and store lots of data. Why the heartburn over CF?

It's a fair old prove but the 1DX cost more on release. Why not just get a 1DX, it's more than enough camera for the little guys :p

I am very happy with CF too.
Other than testing I have yet to fill the buffer on my current 1DX which is rated at 35 frames or so - with a fast card (Lexar 1000x) mine gives 53+ RAW files at 10fps and clears in a couple of seconds). The 1DX2 is rated at 73 frames so I would guess that in practice we will be looking at close to 90/100 frames - with a fast CF card - I can live with that!
So C Fast is quicker - so what? I have shot alongside a couple of wildlife pro's and none seem to take very long strings of shots. The sports (Rugby) photographers that I know have zero concerns about their buffers and they all have smaller buffers than the 1DX. As such, for stills photographers (or at least the many that I know) CF cards are still far more than adequate.
Perhaps the C Fast is needed for 4K video?
Personally I would have much preferred 2 CF slots in the 1DX2 - more than good enough for my wildlife needs! As to video? I don't even know how to turn it on, but then I have only had the camera for a little over 2 years.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

That is pretty bad to have TWO different types of cards slots. CF2.0 is much faster!

??? Several Canon bodies have 2 different slots today. A majority of the 1D series, the 7D2, and the 5D3.... Why would the 1DX II be any different? :)

Every 1D except the original 4MP 1D (1x CF) and the 1DX (2x CF) have had two different card slots -a CF and an SD

I actually liked it that way for a number of reasons
I had an SD reader built into the side of my laptop

If a cop tried to seize your camera you could eject a cheap CF card and hand it over instead
