I took another run at some old data using newer processing skills. I have the older image in my POTN gallery and it's seen in this thread:

Was impressive then, remains the same now.
Even after all these years I think we haven't given enough credit to 20D.
Are you still shooting with that large Meade?

Thanks. No, I sold the SCT and reduced my scopes to a Sky 90 II and 8" R200SS Vixen Newt. If I had an observatory I'd like to have a big SCT again but not when setting up fresh each night. My 20D has been a real work horse, still a decent camera by today's standards.

Nice job! Detail in the gas clouds look great. Isn't it great to do a rework on old data and make improvements, especially if you don't have time to get new data. I learn new stuff and want to revisit all kinds of images.

Forgive me, but your breathtaking capture brings to mind a favorite paragraph from Melville:
“Trace out great whales in the starry heavens . . . With a frigate's anchors for my bridle-bitts and fasces of harpoons for spurs, would I could mount that whale and leap the topmost skies, to see whether the fabled heavens with all their countless tents really lie encamped beyond my mortal sight!”
(Moby Dick; Chapter LVII)

Very well done!

Thanks very much. It's nice to try and get more from you old data, new software and new tricks. :)

Boy, for a 90-minute tracking job, that's amazing. You've got a whole lot more patience than me! 'Excellent work.
