I knew I've answered this before, in this thread: https://photography-on-the.net …read.php?t=1013655&page=1

Red are my updates:

Nathan wrote in post #12022565 (external link)
My progression:

Aug 1997 - Nikon N6006 acquired from my dad
Nov 1999 - Nikon Pronea S which laid to waste soon after college due to terrible APS film format
Jul 2003 - Sony Cybershot DSC-P7 in order to finally go digital
Sep 2007 - 40D (new)
Nov 2008 - 50D (used) because the 40D was stolen
Oct 2010 - 7D (used) because wanted just a little more in the ISO and found someone willing to trade for the 50D
October 2012 - 5D mark III (used) in addition to 7D
November 2013 - 5D mark II (used) as a second body, swapped by 7D for it.
Next - Looking for a 1DIV if I can find a buyer for the 5DII.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

Ok I will bite though I can not be as technical as everyone else.

Stated off with a bag full of 35mm film camera's and a high school class on B&W film developing and photography. The 35mm gear was my fathers. I was not touched after his death in 1993 and I picked them up in 2002. After high school came huge inovation in technology and I was to broke to keep up with the times. My first real digital was a sony point in shoot that boosted a hole 3mp censor. From there I got a kodak with a 7mp censor and some zoom. I still have the kodak but have upgraded a lot.. my two bags have over 5k worth of gear. that includes Nikon D3300, D7000, and D610 as well as a Sony A6000. I really need to get the 35mm stuff cleaned and play with it some more.

God created the beauty. My camera and I are a witness..

2001-2003:
Pentax MV
Canon A1

Took a long break then eventually picked up DSLR

2011-present:
Canon 30D
Canon 40D
Canon 7D

I still have the 30D and 40D, I need to sell the 30D. The 40D is my backup.
Would like to eventually pick up a 7DmkII and use the original 7D as my backup.
But for the price the 7D is working just great for me.
I would like to eventually pick up an older Full-Frame to try out for low-light stuff but no rush.

Interesting to see how many times people upgrade or expand. My gear revolved pretty constantly until the 5DIII was introduced, and I've stuck with it since...seems like an eternity in the digital age.

My upgrade path was mainly driven by small venue performing arts shooting.

0.0 Powershot S30 - Had no idea what I was doing
1.0 Canon 30D - Got me started in concert shooting
2.0 Canon 5D - Upgraded for better low light performance and overall IQ
3.0 Canon 5D mkII - Upgraded for better low light performance
3.1 -Canon 7D - Bought to compare AF and IQ performance to the 5DII
3.2 -Canon 1D mkIII - Bought to compare AF and IQ performance to the 5DII
4.0 Canon 5D mkIII - Upgraded from 5DII for better AF performance and IQ
4.1 -Nikon FE2 - Bought to appease my inner hipster

The last couple years, I've become a more serious video shooter as well as more of a documentary photographer. Luckily the 5DIII handles everything I need to do relatively well. It is truly a great all-purpose tool. My next upgrade will likely be driven by video or may even be a dedicated video camera like a C100 or Ursa Mini level camera.

In the early days, each year had drastic improvements in sensors and technology. I look at my D70 from 2004 and it is amazing compared to a 4 year old body today. But there isn't that same jump anymore. I love it. I can buy one or two generation back bodies now and have a fantastic camera.

Mid-1970's: Kodak 126 Instamatic, followed by Practika LLC. Next up, a Mamiya M645, and Yashicamat 124G.
Early 1980's: Canon A-1, and added an AE-1 Program. Used these until around 1990, and set photography aside. Resumed around 2004 with a Canon S3 IS.
Several years later brought a Canon T3i, to which I added a G15 for an easy to carry camera. Last year a 7D Mark2 joined in, and these last three are the "Daily Users".

The only ones I no longer have are the Practika and the Mamiya. Don't mind not having the former, but should have kept the latter.

February 2005 - Canon 3000V. My first camera.
October/November 2005 - Canon 20D. First digital camera.
February 2011 - Canon 5DII. Upgraded for better low-light performance and AF.
November 2015 - Fuji X-Pro. I wanted a smaller camera.

I technically still own all of the above, although I think the 3000V died. In any case, it lives in an attic somewhere. 20D lives in a drawer and the other two are in active service.

Other cameras owned:

Canonet 28 - Occasional use since 2007. Currently on loan to a student at the school where I work, I might let her keep it.
Bronica 645 - Owned this between about 2008-2010.
Yashica TL-Electro X - Had this about a year now.

Very wise upgrades. I'd say you have managed to always get a heck of a lot of bang for your buck!

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
