I'm totally new to flash work. I've been trying to wrap my brain around high speed sync and after lots of reading and youtube videos, I made my first attempt.
my co-worker this morning at DFW airport
T3i, 50mm 1.8 STM and 270EXII speedlite.

Hi Chris

Not really sure HSS was needed. What was you reason for using it?

Looks perfectly exposed for fill flash. When done right, straight fill flash goes unnoticed but it balances the photo very nicely.

-1 flash exposure compensation would've been more natural. Still a very good photo.

If only you had a second flash with a remote sync for rim light! I just picked up a YN 600EX-RT for $99 from Amazon (supposedly used, but it was brand new). A couple of those to keep around for situations like these are well worth it, I think.

Kamen

Camera: Canon 7D Mark II and Canon 60D with battery grips
Lenses: Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, EF 70-200 f/4L USM, EF 50mm f/1.8 II, EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM, with UV, CPL and ND filters and hoods
Lighting: two Yongnuo 600EX-RT, NEEWER macro ring-light, cheap studio strobes and equipment

I thought back on that shoot and realize I had the flash held in my left hand and shot with my right.
