Potboiler title aside, this is the first time I've seen a press release like this.

70% white lenses, allegedly. :)

I thought it was lot closer back when the D700 and D3 were out back when I was shooting more college football than weddings.

Heh,

I was at work and every time I was looking up at the super bowl I just saw a Canon super tele in the background, or at the podiums/stages, I saw nothing but 70-200's that were white.

It was a Canon party.

Very best,

At a level lower, at high school football/lax/soccer playoffs here in FL, the only Nikon I would see were the D3 and D4 series that belonged to the Scripps shooters who got company gear. It seemed like everyone else here shot 7D and 1D series fitted with everything from Magic Drainpipes to 400 2.8ii glass. But again high school playoffs is hardly rarified air for sports shooters even if some of those guys had the gear and chops to shoot any level.

Maybe something to do with the Florida sun? I've seen Nikon glass with white wraps for this reason.

Who really knows which camera brand was in most use at the super bowl. And who cares? This was released by canon, so of course they gonna pick a shot that is mostly canons in it.

If you read the announcement, you'll know they pulled a clever marketing move... Much better than dare I say it, Nikon's Ashton Kutcher campaigns?

They do this at the Olympics too. CPS is there on site loaning out top-end equipment, Moby Dick lenses in particular.

It was more like 85% or more in the early to mid 2000's, but yes.

Bingo! Canon gives out gear at major sporting events just to be seen. Seems to work judging from this post.

By the way, Coke is the drink of the Olympics athletes and Nike makes the best golf clothes and gear because Tiger uses them.

See the logic...line, hook and sinker....

exactly, thread should read as "canon pays off superbowl"

there was shooters at the superbowl with covers on their monopods emblazined with the name canon, if that's not being a paid off advertizement for canon i don't know what is

Is this not the point of good marketing? Sure beats Nikon's Joe McNally free wedding truck and Sony's alpha vest for sports photographers shooting Canon and Nikon glass.
