Getting frustrated with my camera so today I went out again and set up a tripod with the 70-200 at 1/2000th, f4, 1000 ISO, IS OFF. My Success rate seems low or am I just crazy? I have attach two images, First one looks to be back focused while the second image seems okay. I have also posted a few more in a Zip file for everyone to pixel peep to see if my issue is indeed the lens or the camera. I think it has something to do with Al Servo as I don't have these issues in One Shot. I used 1 AF point most of the time doing my best to keep it on his eyes and the tripod made it quite easy to do so. Looking at the images with the AF point Display in Image Review, I was rarely off his face. Also experimented with left and right AF and Expanded AF. Single AF point did the best but looks like the camera was playing catch up.

Heya,

Probably is just servo. Check your sensitivity and drive settings, ie, what it puts priority on. I would put low sensitivity here for a kid, as low as it will go. And for priority, maybe try tracking (take a look at all the options). Since you said one-shot focus works beautifully, that just means AI servo is over/under predicting the movement and making large jumps. This is not uncommon when shooting this thin of depth of field where AI Servo can back focus a hair and give a soft OOF image.

Very best,
