Have noticed the price for this appears to be falling. Just wondering what people think is causing the fall. If I remember right, this lens sold for around $2200 from authorized Canon....now it can be had for $1749. I consider that to be a significant change. Not for sure if Canon is having one of their rebates right now but this lens can usually get a $100 rebate from Canon.

It's following the typical price curve of Canon lenses. They all get a premium when released and then move down once the early adoptors have paid the tax.

It is already more than one year old and it faces stiff competition with the 150-600 (Sigma C or Tamron). The 150-600 are longer and much cheaper. Although I like the 100-400 vII a lot more than the Sigma and Tamron, it is difficult to ignore the fact that it was twice as expensive and 50% shorter :/
I guess Canon is trying to stay competitive.

Canon 5DIII, 24-105L, 100-400L vII, 35 f/1.4, 50 f/1.4, 100 f/2.0, 100L f2.8 macro

I found this lens from few stores locally for about $1620-1680 without rebate or anything else, no warranty, and they give i think 1 week to return it if something wrong, so is this price bad? Brand new price not used, i bought several lenses from them at so lowest prices and no issues at all, but i know many people never go without warranty if brand new.

How does an authorized dealer, if they are, get away with selling without the warranty? Unless they're selling grey market? If the manufacturer offers a warranty then it comes with the product. The dealer, vendor, may not want to honor it, but the warranty still exists. You just have to send it to Canon, bypass the dealer. Again the grey-market products do not get the warranty.

I would say that the 150-600 Sigma sport lens is a consideration to the 100-400V2

If you have not tried the sigma then your preaching from the fan boy booth. Its a killer lens. Fast focus, great images and its 600mm at same F/stops. My Opinion is 2 different animals. 100-400 definitely a lot easier to hand hold, pan,IS system is phenominal, just a great lens to 400MM

600MM is a new ballgame. I got to use this 150-600 sport and I rented the tammy 160-600 and took it to yellowstone and glacier. The Tamron got great images. AF was a little slow, build is crapola. lens hood kept falling off when hiking so I taped it on.

Its a welcome to the 600 club lens and gets a lot of people into Wildlife photography. I put an extension tube on the tammy and it was useless. Cant remember what happened with a TC but I think we got a grizzy way out with the 7D2 and its was useless as well when we zoomed in.

The 100-400s take TC's well. I did not try the Sigma 150-600 with a TC. Would have loved to but didnt have it long enough. The sport version is a 1900.00 lens......My Opinion....Its definitely worth the $$$ and I would prefer it for what I do over the 100-400V2.

600mm is a new game. With the right camera i think is a great option to the heavy and bulky 500F4. On my 7D2 in good light i would grab for the sigma 150-600 before I would consider dragging out a 500 F/4.....I can still hand hold the sigma....not gonna happen with a 500F4

The new sensors coming out are really going to really change the game for everyone. And I think that they will actually make a lens like the 150-600 Sigma Sport a very desirable lens for wildlife. If it can take a 1.4 TC well, then its a no brainer. You can put it in a back pack and get to places your not going to drag a 500F4 into

So I think it all depends what your going to mount these things on. And I think guys like me, that are going to step up to the 1Dx2 and Nikon folks that are going to jump on the D5 are going to much prefer a lens like the Siggy 150-500 Sport... Its a killer lens in my opinion.

600 v/s 400. Gun v/s Knife. The sigggy images blew me away. Very very good results with the 150-600 Sport. I think the other Siggy and tamron are in the intro camp for the class.....Builds are terrible.

I was talking about grey market, not a dealer.

Actually i am not sure which to get, 100-400 mkII or Sigma 150-600, i can afford the Tamron and sell my 100-400 mk1 to get mkII, but i feel i want to have the Sigma version instead of the Tamron, and i don't know which one i will use more, many like or prefer the Canon lens maybe because it is sharper and faster? i can't decide for myself because i know all lenses are good enough and i have good bodies, but which will give me more edge, not sure.

The sigma sport is very fast focus. It was faster than the Tamron by a lot. I Hvae the 100-400V1 and felt it was not as snappy as the canon but it definitely was no slouch. Build build build. The sigma contemporary and the Tamron feel cheap and toyish compared to the canon and the Sigma sport. The sport is a tank. Great build. I think buying to use a lot and long term serious use is a no brainer....Canon and Sigma sport are the choices. Then 400 v/s 600 comes into the equation. And now, with usable 25000 ISO on the D5 and 1Dx2, portability and reach will change the decision process even more.

Im going to rent the 150-600 siggy and get it out with some TC's next trip and I can really make a good decision for me. But Right now, all disposable cash is going to the 1Dx2. Siggy is going to have to wait a while. Great lens in my opinion. I think on the 1Dx2 with so many focal points that will be F/8, its going to be the lens to use. Very hand holdable and with fast shutter speeds and F/8 the world is waiting for you to arrive. 600x1.4 at 25000 iso means your gonna get right on them when they are most active.

I am so glad I jumped on the 300F/2.8. Im going to be out and about with a TC. Its close to 500F/4 and I can hand hold with shutters in lighting that was not possible. Go read and understand Oles field reports before you buy. This update is huge. Going to change the decision process for everyone. Its going to make you reconsider what you really need. F/4 glass is king of the hill. Hand hold F/4.0-5.6 is now very desirable in my opinion because I would gladly give up F/4 for portability and being able to get close and hand hold......Now factor 600MM into this....not a hard decision to me.

D5 field report- Read and understand where its going before buying is my opinion

Actually i want to have this Sigma sport, many said it is not much worth it, but you explained why it is worth it, and i don't force myself to not go to the best option, if i can't afford it now then i can afford it later next year and i never look back, i didn't use 100-400 v1 much at all, but i bought it in long time ago just as effect of GAS, and i won't give up this FL or similar just because i don't shoot, i always prefer to have something for even one time shoot than never, renting is cheaper but not in all conditions.

I just not in rush much, i may sell my 100-400 in mid of this year, then i will see if i need reach more or not, i have 1DX and it is still very capable for high ISO, but i have to decide between 100-400 v2 or Siggy sport lens, i can't afford both and as you said i am not looking at Tamron or Sigma contemporary, and i have a plan in the future not sure when that i will travel for Safari and birds, and i don't think i can afford longer primes yet, and i already have Canon 300 2.8IS, so i can use it with 1.4 to be on 400 FL, tough decision when we are still in Canon dress and not trying to dress another brands much, it is all about how much budget i can save until i decide something.
