I want to learn about videography. Seeking good sources to read (or watch) that will give me a good understanding of the type of camera's available, whether DLSR or not, and requirements of ancillary equipment, such as lenses, computer, editting software, etc. I'd be looking for a camera that can produce high quality wildlife video that can be carried into the field. I expect a tripod would be needed. Thanks.

Start cheap on YouTube. There are certain YouTube channels that are good starting points, like Curtis Judd and Dave Dugdale--who basically YouTubed as they themselves learned.

At some point--and at some cost--you may want to go to their websites for their paid tutorials or go to something more generalized like Lynda.com

yeah, I've been looking blindly on the net. Thought experienced people could recommend a few good sites or books.
I watched Doug Gardner's episode on using dslr for wildlife filming and Lynda's video explaining differnt types of recorders. Both really good, just looking for more. I suspect I'll use my 60D to start with. It's in the bag and not being used. Have lots to learn.

Im a huge fan of www.lynda.com (external link) although I have not resubscribed for my new video trials, they have kept me up to date on software for 15 years or so.

If you subscribe for the first month, then go in the next day and cancel, you get the full month you've paid for without the worry of forgetting about unsubscribing thirty days later.

just remember to watch a bunch of stuff in those thirty days.

On the software side, Blender is a free, open source product that among other things has a very robust video editing component. YouTube has some very good tutorials explaining the Blender editing module in detail.

Plan on investing in storage.
