I find myself in a strange situation. I keep looking for new toys, but nothing strikes my fancy. I seem to have all the gear I want (that I can afford). Sure, I'd like a 24L II, and a 600 f/4L II, but those are just unrealistic, financially. I may be (not)-suffering from UN-G.A.S. I've actually started selling off stuff I haven't used in a year. I'm just curious, how many of you are, for the most part, satisfied with the gear you have?

I own only what is in my profile and an M. Although I always want new stuff, I fine myself using the same tools very and over and over and other things once in a while. Honestly, with all being said, I probably could just have a body and maybe 3 lenses and do everything.

You're not alone!. I'm in the same situation like you, no matter what new canon is presenting and how tempting could be, I'm not in the need to replace any of my gear. I guess having a family to sustain and a harder economical situation in my country and where I'm not using my gear as much as I want, keep me away from any new gear and maybe I'll consider selling any of them if the situation remains as it is right now.

I'm all set for gear at least for now. I have a new body and now with 3 I may sell my 5D2. For the most part I don't have much that doesn't get used a lot.

Been taking photos for over 46 years so I have built up an immunity to GAS.

I wish I could bring myself to sell stuff, I just think that as I've spent my hard earned £'s on it I'll make use of it in the future. A prime example is my 70-200 2.8L (1) that hasn't been on a body in perhaps 4 years, but, whilst I wouldn't buy the ii, one day I may want the reach it provides...who knows...

I guess for me, the glass is a long term investment that I'll enjoy for years & I'll have it when I need/want it. I don't want to sell for a loss then only find I need/want it further down the line & not have it only to kick myself for letting it go... Admittedly I am a bit of a hoarder...lol

Unfortunately I'm about to find cash harder to come by due to redundancy, so belts will be tightened for sure...which will mean no new acquisitions for quite some time & I was really looking forward to that 5D4

Heya,

I'm always enjoying trying a new camera body or lens, I do a simple system where I get it and then sell/trade things to make up for it, so I'm always rotating things. I have staple gear that I keep, and then there's the other stuff I try, keep, sell, trade, etc, so that I can have fun and try things, but not end up keeping everything. I had 7 bodies not long ago and (as you know) reduced down that count, then promptly it filled again. I recently traded out glass too. I just use the gear until I figure out if it's something I like or if it shows me I want something different and just keep swapping it out. That way I'm not spending tons of money and acclimating stuff like a collector and just have a constant shuffling working group of cameras & lenses. I just like to try things out. Sometimes I'm in the mood for something nicer, sometimes I want something old and hard to use, etc.

Very best,

it's easy to want new toys, especially photography toys :) I use to want the tools to do whatever kind of photography I chose to do that day, but a few years ago I started concentrating on the tools to do the photography I do almost all the time. I've skipped buying the latest body (I use a 5D2), and instead concentrated on getting the lenses I most wanted for landscapes. As soon as i get the Zeiss 15 (on order)... I'll have a pretty good line-up of prime Zeiss glass, and i also carry the 70-200 f4L for a longer reach when needed (it's a very sharp lens). Beyond that I'd like to see how the new Canon sensor technology trickles down from the new 1DX2.. and would be looking for either a 5D4 or a 5DsR2. I can't think of a whole lot beyond that. Of course I'd love to have a 400,500, or 600 but I just don't do that kind of photography enough to justify it.

I do have a few lenses I should probably sell, although I like holding on to a few autofocus lenses for the odd times I use them.

I've already moved the gear I bought from you. It was fun. It was interesting. I couldn't justify keeping it when someone offered me what I paid for it.

In the same boat, not looking to buy any new gear as I am happy with what I have, just need to get out and shoot more! I just sold my 7D because it was just sitting unused.

I am definitely in a un-g.a.ssy state. It's not so much that I don't want or need anything newer, it's just that Canon has not put out anything better than what I have now. The 5DIII and 6D are fantastic cameras but my 5DII does everything I need it to do and the few improvement in the 5DIII I just don't desire. Same with the 7DII, fantastic camera but my 7D does everything I need. There is nothing out there right now to make me gassy.

Un-g.a.ssy! My wife's wildest dream. Oh, camera stuff....

I admit, I've been tempted by the Sigma 150-600C. I use my 100-400L so seldom it seems like a waste of time to think about upgrading. Maybe I just like the mm/$ aspect of it.

Yea, me to but then I got to play with one and for me, the results were so close to what the 100-400 with t-con delivered that it just made no sense for me.

I do the same thing. I like to pick up stuff when it's on a decent deal, play with it, enjoy it, learn from it, and if it's something I absolutely fall in love with I hang on to it, otherwise, I let it find a new home and just keep trying new things. It's a fun way to get the "gear" side of things quenched while not spending thousands just to experiment.

Very best,

That is good news. I recently added an EF 1.4X II T-con for use with my 135L and 70-200L. I'll have to try it on the 100-400. I used a Kenko 1.4X with the 100-400L last year. The results were less than stellar.
