I've generally used the PS Express app on my iPhone to edit photos on the go. I wifi the jpeg files from my camera into the phone, and that app is generally good for light edits. However, I prefer using the LR app bc it is much more in-depth with options to adjust blacks/whites, colors, vignette, etc. I find it as close as you can get to the complete program on Mac/PC.

The only draw back is that the LR app apparently requires more storage space on my phone than the PS Express app does. For whatever the reason, I generally have to refrain from using the LR app simply bc it won't allow me to import photos into the app. My phone is loaded with music, and is usually near full capacity.

Also, I've noticed on one of the LR app updates, that RAW support was updated. I did not know that LR app on iphone supported RAW files. Has any used LR on iphone to edit RAW files? How did you get the files in there? I'm assuming via some sort of tethered adapter. And do you notice a difference when editing jpeg vs. RAW on this app?

Regardless of difference in quality, I still believe I have to upgrade my 16gb iphone 5s to one of the 64gb newer versions sometime in the near future. Just so I can squeeze in more files. It sucks having to upload files to Flickr, then immediately delete from phone. I seriously have, on average, less than 10 photos in my iphone camera roll before I have to delete.

I'm assuming there's not many here that has used the LR app...

Well, I finally upgraded to a newer iPhone with more storage so that I can use the LR app. It's quite powerful. I did not think I can recover so much detail in a smartphone app.

I've included a before and after image that was shot on and edited entirely in the 6s using LR.

I had to revive this thread having just downloaded a RAW camera app for my iPhone 6S. It's pretty impressive! The files are about 3x the size, but could come in handy when I need to play with the shadows and highlights more.

The app I use creates the usual JPG and DNG .raw file.

I am completely amazed that anyone would actually want to process photos on their phone. What is the appeal?

I don't know, hardcore social media users?

I only transfer them to my computer then process them since I'm so used to the ACR/Photoshop workflow. And my eyes can't take that much time on a tiny screen!

Completely agree. Some of us just want to do a quick edit of a single photo while on the go and beam it straight to the interwebs. Not sure how that's quite surprising these days.

I know a couple of travel bloggers who do. And I know at least two journalist that do also. It depends on use.

I've been known to go directly from the 80D to my phone, tweak and email it to the subject of the street portrait right then and there. I take the picture and a min or two later it's on their phone. Although I do prefer using the iPad.

The travel bloggers are always looking to lighten their load and not having to carry around a laptop is a positive thing.

One of the very useful things about the Lr "app" for phones is that it is also a web app, that you can bring up on pretty much any browser. I found this really useful on one occasion when I wanted to give a couple of friends a quick introduction to RAW processing. You either work with images that are already in your catalogue and shared with Lr mobile, or upload new images.

When you upload new images, using either the web or mobile apps, the RAW files, and your edits, are automatically synced with your master catalogue. What is good for me is that it places uploaded images in dated folders under the Photos folder. This makes it much easier for me to move them to the usual folder structure that I use. For images that I shoot on my phone that is much better than having to use Dropbox and then have Lr watch the Dropbox folder. Since you can't start watching a folder with images in it, this solves a lot of problems. The only real limitation with the mobile app is that you are limited to working with a smart preview within the app, so it limits your local output options size wise. That probably isn't much of an issue if you are just producing web sized images though, it might make sending out a large image for printing a problem.

On the whole I find the Lr mobile/web apps to be quite useful for getting images into your main catalogue while on the road, while at the same time performing some basic processing tasks. The two things I would really like it to be able to do is work with Smart Collections, and to be able to have some method for the Lr server to be able to add images to one of your Publish services on your main system, and initiate the publish process.

Personally I'm not a social media fan so never bother with mobile editing for personal projects. But for work stuff it is useful when shooting events etc. I shoot Rugby and the folks at the match love it when you post a quick pic while the game is still going on.
