It's not just the difference between coming and going. The point of views of the two pictures are different, and in the going-away picture the subject is a bit closer to the door. The psychological effect may be influenced by all these factors.

From a backpacking trip this weekend to the Washington Coast... Normally, I'd edit people out who get in my shots, but something about this person being there, the footprints, and the classic mood of PNW weather - their presence seemed fitting to me.
