So, I'm already a proud owner of Canon's 580ex II. I decided to venture out and purchase the Yongnuo YN-622C-TX and a pair of YN-622C. The seller (evilbay...) also had the Yongnuo YN-565exII on sale and I decided to grab them all (for £135).

Since I was real tired, I thought I had ordered the YN-568ex II... Apparently not. After, I had Googled around for info on the YN-565ex II and it seems to be fairly underwhelmed in comparison.

Is it worth returning the 565ex II and investing an extra £10 for the 568ex II to work alongside my Canon 580ex II on location? Or is it worth keeping the YN-565ex II? I have a strobe set to use, I just wanted a speedlight set up for portability!

Are you going to need/want HSS? If not, the 565 does everything the 568 does. That's really the only feature the 565 lacks. The 565 also has the port for an external battery pack- the 568 lacks it.

I'd like the ability of having HSS just for the higher shutter speeds/outdoor freeze frame type stuff but I guess if I'm shooting more portraiture then it wouldn't be necessary?

I've never needed it for portraiture - but then, I generally don't shoot flash portraits where there's already a ton of ambient light.

sounds like you got a good deal on the bundle. I'd just keep it. But no, HSS with a speedlight isn't going to provide anything more than a tiny bit of fill with outdoor portraits.

Thank you for the replies people :) I'll see if there's like a no hassle return thing, if it's becomes too much then I'll keep it!

You might want to check out the YN685 flash with built-in 622C receiver. More info in the TOYUG pdf (link in signature.)

Funnily enough as I described to the store that I was actually after the 568ex II, they had turned around to say that they're listing was wrong and that they've sent out the YN685 instead (makes it out to be £30 cheaper than the usual RRP).

So it would look like I'd be getting that set up!
